Not surprising, this is just good corporate intelligence. On the other hand, Larry and Sergey do not have FB accounts.

AppEngine is great for rapid prototyping, but it still has several limitations that make me hesitant to base a real infrastructure off of it. I've used it for http://www.minehub.net , http://www.quickcite.it , and a few others.

Interesting that there have been so many payments start-ups in the last few years. Maybe these guys are the ones who will finally get it right.

I think Facebook's biggest failure is that they've never educated people on how to use Facebook well, and honestly, they have likely inadvertently encouraged bad practices with their emphasis on growth. For example, why do you have friends

The argument is friends' contact info belongs to your friends, not to you. Its a social grey area that has been created by the internet, the correct protocols have yet to be defined.

Facebook has huge promise, but I think it is still too young to tell if it has legs on the order of a century. On the other hand, Google has already shown its ability to hop platforms again and again (Search to E-mail, Web to Mobile, Softwa

No. People said the same about Google and Facebook collection phone-numbers for security purposes, but the truth is, extra authentication methods like these are crucial to recovering accounts in the event of attacks. In any case, security t

Interesting concept, but I doubt it will take off. The present version would be easily breakable by image-processing and some scripting. They could obfuscate the image, but then you're in the same war-of-attrition you see with text-based ca

The Cat/Dog captcha was broken because dogs are very likely to be photographed on grass while cats are not. An attack that simply calculated the amount of green in the image broke the captcha to a very high accuracy.

Agreed. I'm surprised they're all moving to MV when there's a Google office just down King street. I hope they don't forget their Waterloo roots when they're all rich in Silicon Valley.

I agree the distributed group-think is a huge problem on the internet. However, if you do some analysis, I think you'll find that twitter-fueled public lynchings are an order of magnitude less frequent than twitter-fueled viral awesomeness.

This is exactly it. Facebook is 2000 people serving 600 million. They all work 10-12 hour days and still can't keep up with all the work thrown their way. Its not that they don't care, they are just swamped.
