I don't care for the unnormalized "number of diggs/tweets/karma" etc. I'd actually use the "like" buttons if they learned what I liked/disliked, rather than just being there to show off an unnormalized and somewhat meaningless figure.

I naively contend that advertising is currently at a local maxima, but not at a global maxima. I contend that for a really successful advertisement framework two things must happen: (1) Ad relevancy must be above a very high threshold, els

What measure would one use for best-ness? Points? Total karma of the commenter? Length of threads? Editor's choice?

Sweet. I've long held the belief that a good information manager should allow any folder to have multiple parent folders...thus allowing the user to store their information hierarchically, or labelly, or a mixture, depending on what is mos

On a side-note, it's interesting to observe that the screen shot shows how easy it is to organize things without Google Wave!

To anyone who found the themes here interesting, I'd recommend Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

Perhaps HN should learn via your upvotes which articles to show you. And the same principle could be used for comments, too.

I use a spreadsheet to do my record-keeping. I have multiple sheets that do: cash flow, the balance sheet, income and expenditure (double entry), and profit & loss. Everything's linked together nicely: e.g., if you make a new transact

"I really don't want a computer. I hate computers. But, what I do like is the power and convenience that a computer gives me." Same. I want carefreeness of the 60s, with the convenience of the 10s.

Awesome. Should get more and more useful as we approach the singularity http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity :)

http://pixlr.com/editor/ should be their home page. The information on http://pixlr.com/ is superfluous at best and a barrier to entry at worst!

Is it getting-the-data which isn't trivial? You can write a crawler for wikipedia. Each country has their time zones in their entry (nicely formatted which makes it easy for parser to find), with daylight saving information too. Many cou

Perhaps include current time in the from-country and to-country? Perhaps, also let the user set when they plan to call, e.g., 5pm to-country time, and it gives the from-country time...and vice versa.

These are programs similar to YC that we considered applying for: TechStars, Shotput Ventures, DreamIt, LaunchBox Digital.

Currently, how difficult is it to get overseas founders into existing startup programs such as YC, TechStars etc? Is YC, for instance, turning down foreign applicants due to visa restrictions? If not, I don't see a problem.

Even the best application will max out at [choose-your-pessimism]% chance of success. Apply elsewhere and often. And apply for YC again next time. Max out quality and quantity of applications for funding. If it's a good idea, you'll get
