As a landlord, I expected to loose money during the pandemic. One of the risks you take on is that the rental market changes and you can't get as much money for your property as you planned on. I have no sympathy for landlords who go

The decision talks about a gates-up-or-down analysis, which seems like the seed of a reasonable test: when the gates are up, entering a restricted area isn’t criminalized; when the gates are down, picking the lock or finding a home in the w

What’s really missing in the analysis is the base rate of WIV workers visiting the hospital with cold symptoms. I’ve heard plausible explanations for why it might be pedestrian or why it might be exceptional, but it’s all meaningless witho

A resistive electric heater can be PWM'ed to provide variable output. If you want to maintain a narrow temperature band, you can do that better by feeding the water temperature into your PID loop and have it control the PWM duty cycle

55kW at 240V is only 230A. A typical house gets 200A service. It’s a lot of power, but you wouldn’t have to move mountains to get it if you worked at a lab that needed it. It could be had for less than the price of many used cars.

As other responders have pointed out, the interest should be 2.5% x 1,000 Guilders, not 2.5% of the amount of gold that was in 1,000 Guilders in 1,648. Its worth going through the math: 2.5% x 1,000 Guilders = 25 Guilders. The Netherlands

Auto layout is still pretty terrible and used sparingly. I would guess it’s more 30 years improvement in CAD - it’s easier to keep fiddling with the layout until you make it work than it used to be.

Last winter I installed a whole house humidifier and I couldn’t be happier. Very little maintenance, marked reduction in dry nose and cracked skin. Easily handles the whole house. As a DIY project I would rate it’s difficulty as moderate.
