For reference, what I said is based on my experience in California and Oregon. Where are you that you see lead soldered copper in 50s homes?

Lead soldered copper didn't become popular until the 1960's or 70's. Before that it would have been galvanized pipes threaded together.

I don't think access to SoC documentation would have solved very many of the problems described in the article. The author still would have had to fiddle with device trees, secure firmware, u-boot, pxeboot, and getting a kernel with t

Help me understand how RISC-V solves these problems? It doesn’t offer a standard way to enumerate hardware in the SoC, so you still need device trees; it’d not a GPU, so you still need to deal with proprietary GPU drivers; it doesn’t stand

So I looked this up [1] and it turns out we're both wrong - you need to have had a valid medical at some time after 2016-07-14. That date is exactly 10 years before congress passed the Basic Med law, so when basic med was new, it was &

Except that’s exactly how it works in many states. If you want to keep your personalized plate, you have to jump through hoops, but it defaults to go with the car in the two states I’ve lived in.

BasicMed came from Congress, not the FAA. And true to congressional style, it disproportionately benefits the elderly - it requires you had a valid medical within the past 10 years, which helps if age related health issues stop you from ren

I spend most of my time writing C for embedded systems. You should focus first on making life easy for the people reading your code. Use `% 2` and `* 4` when those are the things you mean, rather than `& 1` and `<< 2`. Compiler

I live in a region of the US that has more cattle than people, and cattle rustling is a thing here too. I think there is no type of property that people won’t try to steal, so wherever there are cattle, there is cattle theft.

What I like most about TCL is that a TCL REPL feels a lot more like a normal command prompt than Lua or Python or whatever. If I’m going to write a complex program, TCL wouldn’t be my first choice, but if a program I’m using has a command

Oh component costs have gone up for sure the last year or so. But I'm saying the per-unit component costs wouldn't be that different between making 1,000 per year or 10,000 per month. [1] [1]: Except that in the current supply ch

I’m part of a team that makes low volume high priced electronics. Component costs don’t contribute that much: the price difference between qty 1 and qty 1k is usually much larger than between qty 1k and anything more. The things I see contr
