Well designed.. I'm not so sure, once you're used to something you're 'blind' to its defaults.. Big: signed/unsigned automatic conversion? Minor: conflating unsigned and modulo arithmetic (why not allowing sign

? I know that this is a GenodeOS topic, but the GP wondered about seL4 which has some parts in GPLv2 and other BSD (2-clause). IMHO the reason that few use seL4 is that it isn't ready: AFAIK seL4 isn't able to use efficiently mu

A book about the design patterns is a good idea, the original book by then the gang of 4? I disagree, IMHO this book isn't well written, now the question is: is there a better book on this topic?

Really? The 1-based array is really a mistake.. They should have followed Ada: allow any starting index and provide keywords to access the first/last element of the array. All this by default , otherwise it doesn't matter.

In theory, you can take extra precautions sure, but will you take these precautions all the times? Human nature says no: you're in a hurry, you've eaten too much, you have a cold, all these things reduce your ability to drive safe

Except that cmake is often used to generate makefiles, so now to debug an issue you have to understand both cmake and makefiles! Not much of a progress if you ask me..

That's when Jai (if it ever becomes real) hold promise: fast compilation is a first rate goal, not a second rate goal where you decide language features first then try to make the compiler "not too slow".

I disagree, while C signed/unsigned type conversion is a source of bug and should be explicit, it doesn't mean that all implicit conversion are bad.. I think that implicit conversion from int to float is mostly harmless, as the re

In C you don't need lens, either you set a member of a struct or you copy the struct and you set a member of the copy, trivial stuff. Why do you need a library for this kind of thing in Haskell?

I work in telecoms where there are so many acronyms that snakeCase is really painful (but we still use it). As for your second example, why not remote_HTTP_IP_addr ? Even more readable IMHO.
