Great anecdote! My dad was an engineer on the Hubble and its servicing missions so I'm sure he'll get a kick out of that story if he hasn't heard it before. Thanks for sharing it!

Seems likely that it was flagged by multiple users. Also, I suspect the HN algorithm weights flagging by high karma users very highly. Frankly, it's a broken system when it comes to politically fraught topics.

The title is misleading, as it wasn't really a "heist", which implies armed robbery. This guy stole information by taking it home from work over a period of many years. Seems like a fairly light sentence considering he had am

Subway has other ways of getting rid of people when it suits them. There was an article posted here recently about the underhanded methods Subway regional managers have used to shut down competing franchisees within their territories. [1] M

Just yesterday I wondered when Boeing would do this and what the name would be. The new name is about as humdrum and forgettable as you can get, which is exactly what Boeing hopes will become of the memory of all that has transpired with th

I just purchased an Apple-refurbed 2015 MBP. It was a little surreal to be paying almost full price for a 4 year old model. The list of "pros" for the purchase decision was mostly a mirror of the "cons" of the more recen

I was doing the same until last week, happily chugging along on my pet project when my 2011 15" MBP screen went white as a ghost. Diagnostics all point toward a problem with the GPU; apparently that generation has a known defect that&#

Great point about the wider appeal of the Tesla design language. Also, I'll amend my statement in regards to the Lucid's nose, which looks awkward in some angles. Cars are best viewed in person, of course. :)

Having taken a first look at images of the car on their site, I'll say one thing: Lucid has managed a much higher level of aesthetic refinement in their design than Tesla. I'm a huge fan of Tesla overall, and especially their engi

For right-handed typists who don't do a lot with numbers, a 10-key pad just forces your mouse or trackpad much farther to the right, causing ergonomic problems. The number pad should really be viewed as more of a specialized device, no

I grew up in Connecticut, and as I was reading this I had a feeling you were describing the Northeast! I've lived and done business in New England, N. California, the Midwest and Southeast, and the attitude you described is widespread.

In about the same year, my dad brought home a Macintosh SE for the family. I was very young and remember only a few things: it ran the game Dark Castle in b&w from a hard drive, and my father had pulled the entire system out of a dumpst

I agree that the reconstruction needs to be of its own time and place, building in the spirit of the original, not the technology of the past. One of my favorite proposals for the restoration that embodies this approach is that of architect

Can't we all just judge for ourselves whether a particular user is overdoing it, without someone acting as the "self-promotion police"? Your comment seems more like an ad hominem than anything else.

Random question for anyone who uses InVision, as we're considering making it central to our process. Is it easy for frontend devs to recreate the designers' prototype in code? What pitfalls should we look out for?
