No matter how brilliant the game mechanics of those games were, they wouldn't have hooked me as they did without Antonov's exceptional vision. City 17 and Dunwall Will forever live in our memory.

To the list I'd add: We're destroying software when we think documentation does not matter.

I'm intrigued by the conclusion. Docs-as-code, this time turning actual documentation and requirements into code? So, specifications? Back to OpenAPI? Back to... programming languages? :)

It's not easy. Depends on the culture where one grew up, too, and family values weigh a lot in this. But when people from many different backgrounds get together to work, praise is the kind of thing that prevent networks from falling a

The most important is that tech must stay at the periphery of the user's attention. Of course one cannot apply this to Candy Crush...

Amber Case's book on Calm Technology and design was a great read. Perhaps as a consequence of having studied Cognitive Science, I find this one to be the best book I’ve read on feature design — and not just for software. It's full

Hi there! I'm the author of the Seven-Action Docs Model. Big yes. I think the 7A model is fully compatible with the likes of Diataxis, or with pragmatic initiatives such as The Good Docs Project [1]. 1. https://www.thegooddo

Diataxis gets often linked around here. It's simple, but by no means the solution to great docs. For more info, see https://idratherbewriting.com/blog/what-is-diataxis-document...

Yeah, the increase in productivity thanks to LLMs makes the need to hire a junior writer or a contractor less pressing. Way less. I guess that's why I'm developing my coding lifeboat on the side.

I'm 42 and have been working as a technical writer since I was 26. I'd argue that technical writing is one of those fields where you can comfortably work until retirement. Many in my field think AI will take their job — I think ot

Looks very interesting. Does it produce an OpenAPI file? That'd help immensely in documenting APIs that lack specifications.

I find it refreshing when researchers disclose their own failures. Science is made of negative results, errors, and rejections, though it's often characterized in a much different, unrealistic way. By the way, even though some of you m

Can't describe the excitement that tools like thise bring to me. I remember when we used to create cities in Sim City 2000 and then navigate them in Sim Copter and Streets of Sim City. I'm hoping to see something similar happening

Pretty much everything the author describes applies to technical writing, too. Thinking AI can replace senior writers is delusional.
