This is my take as well. Complement it with asking the officer to try to identify periods where the video might need to be deleted to save a whole bunch of time for those working to process the data.

Because laptops don't use SoCs... A SoC (system on chip) is a whole lot more than just an application processor.

The problem is really that the SoCs aren't maintained for long, and the complexity of the SoC concept makes maintaining it yourself as the device manufacturer at best impractical, maybe even impossible if the SoC manufacturer won'

When the modular phone concepts appeared online (in the early '10s?) I was convinced that this was where it would take us, so when I heard about Fairphone, I really thought it was going to be that. Slightly disappointed it hasn't

I'm not 100% convinced it's all that negligible, but in general I agree with your sentiment. Inefficient software updates are a pet peeve of mine. If I download 5GB of software patches I'd expect to see major differences afte

I was flabbergasted when I went to update a bunch of Samsung TVs in the office the other day and the package Samsung told me to download was 3.1GB! Sure, that package actually contained 2 complete images for different series, but why does a

We need to look at this from several angles. Yes, most have fast internet these days, which means that for a single person the time spent downloading a 1GB update isn't really a problem like it might have been 10 years ago, but what ab

I thought one of the features of having signed and verified boot partitions was that you could know exactly what's in it and can thus do cool things like binary diff patching where it makes sense (which should be like >90% of all

I thought the accepted solution was to just add Blocking WebRequest to the Manifest v3 implementation, which should be simpler than maintaining the entire v2 specification.

I think it's equally possible Apple actually didn't know how many phones would be hit by the feature when they launched it. They knew that old devices (especially common with the well-selling iPhone 6) would fail at peak demand, a

Yep, this (EVs with bidirectional charging) is something we have to do, as it could be used to balance the grid when necessary, diminishing the need to spin up fossil fuel power in these circumstances. Unfortunately most EVs don't have
