LGPL isn't great for games either. One of the most celebrated changes in SDL2 was moving from LGPL to ZLIB license. All the linking requirements of LGPL are a pain for games and distribution.

For me, having some open source on GitHub, bitbucket and launchpad, has been useful in few job interviews because it kind of helped to avoid the "coding exercise" and it was a good data point to prove I know how to use git and goo

Yes: the transitive dependencies is the big problem here, and a hard one to solve. I can handle direct dependencies manually, more or less, because that's the code I'm using directly and I know what are my requirements. But then

Back in uni I emailed Andrew Tanenbaum asking some silly question about the Amoeba operating system. This was around 97, and the Internet was still new to me. There was access in one lab 1 hour once a week or something like that, so the fac

Writing Go it is good practice dealing with the errors first and, when possible, using if/return; and I agree. Less indentation is good IMHO, and conditional nesting is usually best if avoided. Working on someone's else code I

I've been very happy with gvim for many years, so I don't think I will change any time soon (although Emacs + evil is very sweet too, specially writing Clojure). But there's one thing I can't really understand and, for m

Yes, you're correct; but I found the UI too ugly and at that point I was already too frustrated. It's probably me, but I had put already too much time on something that shouldn't be an issue.

I'm not sure "popular clients" is a good thing to look at; Skype UI isn't great (and really bad if you use the IM part of it). On this topic; I wouldn't mind hosting my own XMPP service, but most clients aren't

It really doesn't matter, the compiler will generate the same code (gcc -S at least does generate the same assembler output for both pieces of code; see: https://gist.github.com/reidrac/afb89b29228a243954bd51281c39

Finishing projects is a skill on itself; the article is right on focusing on what is really important, but I'm not so sure all the points are as useless as the author is presenting them. Would you say those 6 years were wasted time?

I was a fan of DDD back in the day (long ago, when the Motif based UI was OK ), but that was because I really didn't know how to use plain gdb. I'm actually surprised that DDD continues (somewhat, there was a release in 2009).

No, it doesn't. Only timestamps on files are preserved. It could store that information as metadata, like it does with the timestamps; and then restore if supported by the destination file system when copying/syncing files back.

rsclone operates like a limited rsync between different cloud providers (and local filesystem too), so either copy files or mirror two directories; duplicity does incremental backups.
