Yes, you're probably right. It was quite blunt :)

When I used .tk briefly in 98-99 it was using iframes and they injected ads and/or opened pop-ups IIRC.

> Interviews should be consistent with what day to day work actually looks like, which today means constantly using LLMs in some form or another. I don't, and I don't know anyone working with me thar is using any LLM (we pair).

I don't see how "owning" has to include updates for life. I use mostly open source, so I'm not used to buy software, but when I did it in the late 90s there was expectation of it including some support (eg. updates until

Ikiwiki is such a neat project that I'd like to use it, but I don't really have the need of a wiki. I mean an actual wiki where multiple people collaborate. Because it is only me editing content, I use markdown with Hugo + rsync

Yep, I was thinking a switch statement may be better. I mean, if we don't take into account that implementing this is just a joke anyway :D

Despite the prime meridian crossing the country, Spain is the same timezone as Berlin. One hour more than London. If you are interested, look for the historical reasons for that. Edit: OK, a good source. > On March 16th 1940, the clocks

It is a very specialised GIS tool, isnt it? So that price doesn't look like a barrier to me. Sounds more like a smaller market with already established tools, perhaps? I haven't checked if it was the case, but organisation type o

Only mildly related but I'm using Eternal September to follow a handful of newsgroups and the spam I see in those come from Gmail accounts via Google Groups. I wonder of it would be better if Google was out of Usenet completely instead

I just run Compton as compositor and the tearing is gone, which makes hard to move to Wayland and having to solve issues that I currently don't have. I used it first with XFCE and later with i3.

These are good definitions but the original post wasn't referring to people not taking into account the philosophical part of free software, unless it really meant "copyleft". A permissive licence doesn't really transmit

You're right. I guess one difference would be the part where the free software tell us "why". But in practical terms, it is too complicated (ethics!), so all is down to copyleft or not, which I believe is what the parent comm

I was looking for the code and that "Star us on GitHub" link isn't great. I want to see the code, not star the repo; is that link going to star the repo? (it doesn't, is just a link to the github repo)

Or may be not. People commit to use a tool, so why not doing it fully so you get the most benefit from it? It makes everything harder if you want to use a tool without really using it so you can move to a different one if needed.

As I understand it, they just said they aren't going to do it because is not technically feasible, but the bill includes the clause to do it, if it was possible. I can't see anything to celebrate here. The bill should have been am

I'm on sdf-eu. Not sure SDF has external groups anymore, they may do. Just double check because the website has had outdated info before. AFAIK the best options are https://www.eternal-september.org/ and https:/&

I commuted by train between 2010 and 2011 in England, and there were big billboard ads of Google Chrome. Not sure what effect these have, but I wonder how many people don't know about Firefox at all.

Scala has mostly all the issues the post is discussing. Perhaps once you're on Scala 3 you're going to enjoy stability, but your dependencies most likely won't give you that. And the JVM, and compilation times, and poor Scala

In my circles, and for a long time, "Ubuntu" meant "I can't install Debian". Because Debian used a text based install that required a bit more knowledge (and reading), and Ubuntu was more user friendly at the time.

I don't get the "bad drummer" meme. The drum parts in any Metallica song are perfect for the song and you can tell his style by listening to the drums alone. Even if it was just serviceable, he's Metallica's drummer

It is all about the change. HashiCorp model was open source, and now is not. Salesforce has never been open source. Would terraform have been as popular it if had never been open source? That we won't know, but we can guess.

Gemini also removes cookies, actual forms (there's a way to submit text, but not as a form), and any possibility of extending the protocol. It throws the baby with the water, a bit. Despite all that, it is still useful, but not enough

I hate when a official government organisation that has their own website still uses twitter and facebook to make important announcements. The assumption all citizens use those private services is wrong and dangerous.
