So the edit would be: In the US, if you devote the space entirely to work as an employee, you pay for it.

Heck yeah! What are you doing to help? I'm pretty exhausted at this point, hard to focus.

Stuff like this makes me wonder if in the future there are entire planets where life is simulated virtually. "Live through the 90s" planet. Would be interesting to have an entire website like this where you can tune to any day and

I dislike all the Protonmail stuff but he's wrong. It's weird to see a popular name get it wrong about something I know a fair bit about. Afaik he's trustworthy so wtf is this.

Yes! Signal isn't perfect either, so I keep my eyes peeled. When Whatsapp wouldnt let me create a group chat without uploading my contacts I was like "yeah.....".

What do you do instead? Replies like this I may mistakenly interpret as "doesn't matter, so I'll do nothing about it" which is just an excuse.

Now that you work at home during the pandemic, who pays for your home office?

Here's my question - who pays for home offices during the pandemic? For those partners who both work at home, who paid for 2 extra bedrooms? Did you office pay for equipment, or did you buy your own mouse, keyboard, and monitor?

Indeed! They are selling like hotcakes. You can sign up for notifications for when a model comes back into stock. But this doesn't extend to individual specs (i.e. if the i5 spec is sold out on the Pangolin model) https://sy

That's helpful context about Signal and interesting to read the dev team's comments. While there may be many forks of Signal, the Signal team itself won't be the one to provide interoperability. Any insights from the early da

Writing an effective slur filter is undesirable. No one can stop people saying completely shit headed things. For one, people just work around it. And more importantly for every shit headed thing you restrict you also cut out someone else,

Yeah exactly. I would expect a tool like Lemmy to acknowledge that slur lists are a thing, make them easy to modify by admins, and make them exposed and easy to reference by users. Join Server / Policies / Word block list. Put it

The problem is it cuts the other way too and spooks those who believe in open speech. I'm now uninterested in Lemmy because of this "feature". Anyone who would try to limit the speech of others cannot have my best interests i

Your point seems to be that a $1k ultralight EV that 90% of people use to get around is impossible? To me it seems inevitable. A self driving AI so no accidents, then a minimal frame to keep the wind off, an chair to sit on, and a few tires

One area to question with your assumption is that it's tens of thousands of dollars. Of course this is true today. But what if an ultralight EV in 2030 only costs $1,000? How does that change your assumptions about market behavior then

Fascinating. Well that clearly doesn't work. It's almost like having an index at all forces a ranking or framing. And so perhaps the index itself is what needs to go.

Super strange. One of those artifacts that makes you question the whole project. One of the powers of diving in super deep is you can start to notice internal consistency or dissonance quicker. With this as an example.

Yes, but crazy you have to come out and say this. Limiting speech means there are plenty of rational opinions we would otherwise miss, options, solutions. It reminds me of that NASA satellite caught throwing away useful data at the system l
