We don't call 'scripting languages' 'glue code' for nothing. If more people thought of FFI/RPC/etc. as just another pipe-and-filter framework, they'd be less reluctant to write properly-defined, performance critical, pieces in a more perfor

Many are "failed" mathematicians and physicists (among other pursuits) that were unable to earn a reasonable living in their primary field. I say "failed" only in that it was surprising to me when I discovered numbers of developers with PhD

Damian Conway may be an example of a virtuoso of the form. His diversionary works[1] have no practical value, but explore the corners of what can be done with Perl, and do so in a way that delights, inspires, and encourages reflection. It

I must assert that this is not the case. Many textbooks, especially in b-school (ok, ok) are fictional narratives of a heroic quest to solve a problem. Through that narrative, lessons are expressed. The Goal, by Goldratt, is an example of

A) Correct, you are ignorant to think it's absurd. B) 7.01 was released almost three years ago. A number of things have changed in that period of time, and it's reasonable to expect that 352 files were created, edited, deleted, etc.

ido and anything/helm are great for "just close enough" partial matching. Knowing that emacs can do something is just as good as knowing the key bound to the particular command.

That's my preference as well, but integrating it with your app launcher of choice (among other things) can be a little more challenging. The alias in /Applications is a particular pain if you try to use Alfred or Spotlight, but maybe Quick

Many of these people don't care about "support" from Microsoft. They care about compatibility with some piece of mission critical software, whether it's a DOS-based app, an old FoxPro database that won't run on a newer release (compatibili

The easiest thing to do is to install a variant of emacs on your machine (aquamacs is fine but stuck at version 23 of emacs). It probably comes with org already at this point. I assume the things you'll want to track are facts and tasks.
