We use Sharepoint in our university as a place for teachers to store documents for students to download. It also serves as a portal for accessing lots of information for different departments in the school. I work in a Chinese university an

Here's the reference: I've been experimenting with various ways of indicating high scoring comments. At the moment I use an orange dot after the time. At one point I tried giving all comments initial dots, and turned them red when

This is just like MerchantCircle, GetSatisfaction, etc. How many of these types of sites can businesses bear before deciding enough is enough? I don't think there's room for many more.

What about after the airlines were deregulated? Didn't we get great prices and service from lots of newcomers? Would you rather we go back to airline regulation?

Quite right, big business has successfully lobbied for many unfair advantages. But two wrongs do not make a right. Undo the damage by repealing existing regulation instead of heaping statute upon statute.

Then why not just get rid of all of it and make a level playing field? Why favor entrepreneurs over big business, or vice-versa?

Why shouldn't it? Didn't Mint successfully take on Intuit? I don't understand this lack of faith in entrepreneurship in such a place as HN. Not just picking on the parent, but my downmodded question and the general fervor towards legislatio

What I don't understand is why a bunch of entrepreneurial types (or at least this blogger for a web start-up site) would be in favor of more government regulation.

I take this to mean no one is "stuck" with a particular learning style. If that were the case, few auditory learners could earn PhDs because of the amount of required reading. Instead of trying to accommodate different learning styles, why

How about just get back to work instead of spending time on this hack? That would save you at least 15 minutes.

0. I did that, but why can't I browse my folder structure within iTunes? Rockbox lets me do it. 1. What about Linux? Portable devices not made by Apple? 2. It's easier to drag a drop a directory or use cp -R /audio /media/mp3player than f

The advantage of a folder structure is that I know where my files are all the time. If I use another OS or copy files to another device, I can just browse through my files just like I'm on my own desktop. Rockbox also allows you to browse b

Exactly. I give WP a lot of credit since it's the only web application I know of that can be upgraded from its own interface without the need to ever login to a shell or manually FTP files to the server.

That should take, at most, a few additional clicks, since plugins can be disabled en masse and databases can be backed up with another plugin (or done automatically at the server).

So it's a good example of software built with security as a primary focus that still has vulnerabilities. I can think of few examples of software that has never had vulnerabilities discovered. OpenSSH maybe?

Windows was originally built without security as a major focus, but has been improved vastly. So has WordPress. Except for a few rare cases where security was a primary goal, such as OpenBSD, most software will be discovered to have vulne

I agree that that blurb is a piece of poorly-written rhetoric, but the book is full of damning primary-source material that effectively support the author's points. If you want something less controversial perhaps, look at John Taylor Gatto
