By relational data do you mean data that has no nesting or arrays? Or data that you always want to query with a join? Something else?

I think it's a refreshingly mature section, And my hats off to you for going there. Unfortunately I don't think the typical reader who I really do believe loves Jepsen outrage porn is going there

I'm genuinely curious to hear which database is the winner from your perspective based on Jepsen's insight?

But the contrived nature of Jepsen tests is so different than the real world. In the real world no system behaves exactly the same as it was designed to behave; the real world has cosmic rays, earthquakes and everything in between. So no st

I respectfully disagree. Human language and characteristics around distributed data stores in the real world have inherent ambiguity implicit in them that Jepsen in my view pretends isn't the case. Here's an analogy that may help

I have a pretty much opposite perspective on Jepsen than most of the folks here. My feeling is that essentially no distributed system is perfect or without trade offs (and certainly no single node system is perfect and wothout tradeoffs) an

Don't take it to heart that people will happily create a narrative just to get karma points. Could you have better optimized your personal brand? Maybe. Could you have also done the engineering you've done if you had? Who knows. D

Do rockets sometimes blow up on the launch pad? Yes. Does that mean they shouldn't have tried to build a rocket ship? Have you tried to build a data layer engine? This kind of attitude is so one dimensional from my perspective... they

Your example really summarizes the challenge with the AWS paradigm: namely that they want you to believe that the thing to do is to spread the the backend of your application across a large number of distinct data systems. No one uses Dynam

DynamoDB is a key value store so forces you into an up-front waterfall design model where you can't easily evolve your schemas. This has massively weakened the scenarios where it can be used but there's a survivor bias where if th
