What about a simplistic version of A/B testing. Like I have a piece of code that should execute x% of the requests (typically 1-2%) to test that it works well before rolling it out for all requests.

I used to aggressively edit content for better formatting once I got enough reputation to have edit permissions on other's questions and answers. Eventually the strive dies down and I understood I wasn't adding much value. Nowaday

AWS does the pagination thing for all LIST APIs and they encode the token in a way they clients cannot deconstruct anything out of it. For them it is just an opaque string. In fact it is cryptographically encrypted and not something simple
