Even some motorcycles have electronic throttle control now a days. When you twist the throttle, it doesn't pull a cable anymore. Its all controlled by electronics now.

Yep. Another long time rectangle user. I use multiple desktops (Spaces) and arrange windows ( browser window, emacs frame, iterm widow) for each task. This makes context switching bearable when working on several things.

Couldn't agree more. Quick feedback is so important, it requires its own post. When I want to try/fix something, if the setup itself takes hours, I lose heart and move on. Thats why I love lisp (or anything with a decent Repl). In

Early on, there was some attempt at syntactic macros. I tried it. But it didn't work out. I hear there are efforts for another iteration. That would be just fantastic when it lands.

Casual python user here. I wasn't aware of this controversy. Why was there a backlash for this operator? (looks kinda neat). Was it breaking things?

This is the third Raku reference I came across since morning. Happy to see Raku getting some press.

If you already know Perl, Raku is easy to pick up. Especially for basic text munging tasks. The RegEx stuff has changed though. Takes some getting used to. Some of the warts are gone (like a list element needs to have a scalar context, the

Raku is amazing. It is great for writing System/Ops scripts with easy built in concurrency! Its only fault is, it has too much stuff in it.

I am sorry, I was only thinking about the analogy and not the original topic :-) As a motorcycle rider, inattentive car drivers are a sore subject. As for C++, I agree with your last comment. I guess without the gravitation pull of a large

Speaking of snobs, I have had multiple arguments with Automatic snobs, who think I am a bit thick for still driving a manual. They refuse to take 'I do it because I like it' as an answer.

Perhaps not always for the better? People eating, drinking and using mobile phones .. I think the luxury of having a hand free with automatic transmission is a contributing factor. Stick shift requires a certain level of attention/enga

Lol yes. I almost had a panic attack driving an _automatic_ up Lombard. (Sadly an old minivan with bad-lish tires). In stop and go traffic (is there any other traffic in SFO?) it moved so much backwards and spun so hard every time I tried t

There are other benefits. - You can read your favourite books every couple of years and not be bored. - You can watch your favourite Movies and TV Serials every few years. (almost time for Expanse rewatch..) - IMO it makes you a better/

Indeed, but it is considered a strength by Go enthusiasts. Not being able to build clever abstractions is a feature. So is the error handling boilerplate.

This works for me, sometimes. More often than not, the primary task I am not doing becomes a 'keylog' issue, I can't do anything else either. Its just a death spiral.

My general understanding is , you can still enter the intersection when the light is yellow. If it is already red, you may be photographed and fine sent to your address. Or a nearby cop can give you a ticket.

Yep. Containers are great. But haven't seen anyone else using it near me though. One feature I was missing from Chrome was Tab Groups. But recently (I don't know when it started) the feature showed up in FireFox too :-)
