Another difference on Windows - Mutex objects can only be released by the thread which acquired them, whereas a semaphore object with a count of one could be acquired on one thread and then released on another. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en

Ya, and in my humble opinion / coding style (everyone's got one...) it's not too hard to just add the foo(const foo &); foo & operator = (const foo &); to every class definition that needs it. Small amount of basic, simple C++

Will client Hyper-V on Windows 8 for the phone emulator work if Windows 8 is itself a guest OS?

Windows Phone 8 is based on the Windows 8 kernel and shares plenty of technology with it. The SDK emulator and debugger use client Hyper-V on Windows 8 to run the phone as a guest operating system, which isn't available on Windows 7.

It's both. WinRT is an ABI as well as a set of tools. The WinRT API can be implemented as wrappers around Win32 APIs (as would make sense for functionality in the WinRT surface area that mirrored applicable functionality in the Win32 surf

Windows Phone 8 has a native 3rd party API and DirectX, in addition to the C#/SL/XNA stack on WP7, which will make porting applications from and sharing code with iOS and Android easier.

If there is only one implementation of an Interface, "anything implementing this Interface" and "anything of this class" are the same thing. Coding to an interface is a good thing - but it's the concept "interface", not necessarily the lang
