Just aslong as they say how they have to work around the FooCorp fuck up rather than saying something like "Dunno how we did it, it just works".

Unit tests have sometimes been a great help, especially for regression tests, but they can get in the way, especially if you actually want to ship. I can see the benefits of getting the 1.0 to market first (if buggy), getting some market sh

Rather than the big picture of long term health effects, my first impression on the brain regeneration issue. You suggest diet changes that could certainly help you live longer, but do they help the brain specifically to stay healthy? The

I'd argue that the frequency of security updates points to a fairly immature security architecture - it might be ages before they get anywhere near other sufficiently secure open source projects (although comparing it with linux is a bit li

I think the main problem is the lack of braces means you have to rely on white space to figure out what the hell is going on. That's the main reason why I religiously put open and close braces on even the smallest if/else blocks as it drama

Although there probably is a lot to be learned about just what Apple et. al. are doing in terms of fucking developers around with their app stores/etc, I do think that the attitude of "shut up and code" is also quite valid. Hopefully people

Has anyone ever fronted up to Google and ask to see some customer service there? Over the past few months there have been a number of stories about Google's bad customer service particularly in relation to the AdSense/etc programs, so I'm c

Really not a good comparison. a) the culture is so much different - a lot of acting for the good of the group rather than the individual, and b) there really aren't _that_ many people who study martial arts.

My take on a lot of classical music is that they seem to be trying to hard, doing too much with the instrument (been listening to some piano pieces by Liszt, Chopin, etc recently). That and I really don't appreciate a lot of high treble so

And no other 'classical' music does it for you at all? You'll excuse me if I find that hard to believe. Probably because I haven't really listened to Bach (youtube et. al. are blocked for me so I can't go and listen right this instant).

Putting aside the security aspect, I think that the terms hacker and programmer as still disparate. They're separated by structure. If you still through and design something you're programming - putting a fair amount of thought and structu

Pretty much to the point - just do it. Although Rupert Murdoch's already decided to do this for his arsenal of papers. In Australia it will work for the financial paper The Australian Financial Review, but we'll have to wait and see how it

No, but it helps. Spec fiction authors are thinking ahead and pondering how things might be - based on to some extent how things are now. You don't have to be barmy, but as the author suggests, you have to think differently - which of cour
