The opposite extreme happens too, many English/Australians have trouble distinguishing Canadian and American accents (especially North-eastern US). Conversely Americans may have trouble distinguishing New Zealand and Australian accents

Alphanym is a full-stack solution, and can help anywhere you need to use people's names. For storing names, I'd suggest two very long Unicode string fields. At least 1024 characters or greater (some names actually get that long).

Strange, know your OS/Browser combo? I've had issues with it before in areas with poor connectivity, since it requires making API calls off to Google (after the page has loaded). The button should start the whole reCAPTCHA flow, b

It's hard to have an unusual name anywhere really. Whether it's from unusual characters, or a name that doesn't fit cultural expectations. I wrote Alphanym to help encourage an interface pattern which preserves the natural di

Another approach is to design the site with SVGs as the priority format. Use flat cartoon like graphics in place of JPG photographs, whenever possible.

This does kind of start to adopt a counter-accusative tone, which could be interpreted as negative. Though it would entirely depend on context. The expletive just makes it sound angry overall.

The UI is nice, and very clean. It's nice that I don't have to sign up, or do much to try it out. I especially like the randomly? selected stock background photos LOL. The person/name recognition could be a tad more robust th

Agreed they are tools designed to fill a niche. This doesn't make them bad, or uneccessary, just specialized. A spanner drive screw isn't worse than a hex drive, it's just designed for a different more specific use case. Real

Your article eloquently sums up my thoughts on the matter. Data science is like software engineering, but with bugs that tend to have particularly far error localities. You don't get a clean orderly traceback, instead you get vague sym

Incidents like this are starting to make me feel that software engineers should have a code of ethics, similar to the Hippocratic Oath. So technologies aren't abused to marginalize individuals/groups.
