Firefox only uses Freetype on Linux (the system-installed version) and on Android, and the vulnerable code path was only reachable in Firefox with a non-default pref set (gfx.downloadable_fonts.keep_color_bitmaps).

Google pays Mozilla Corporation to be the default search engine in Firefox. I wouldn't classify that as a donation, though.

Skia is just one backend used for drawing pixels on the screen. It has nothing to do with deciding which pixels to draw in the first place (i.e. the vast majority of what web browsers do).

On 32-bit Windows, processes have maximum address space limitations which can be easily hit by web browsers. Having more content processes makes it less likely that any particular one will hit that limit. Note that content process OOM crash

My understanding from reading the bug reports is that the general cause of macOS performance issues is understood, but to do anything about it with the current architecture would require pulling developers off WebRender development instead.

FWIW, the release notes for Firefox for Android call out scrolling performance improvements in 3 of the last 4 releases. Might be worth taking another look :)
