I remembered my experience learning Go: reading Go language spec for about 2 hours and start being productive. That is not quite possible with other languages, I am afraid.

Yes, we can build a local encyclopedia. But from a 'Green' viewpoint, which is more environmental-friendly: more Terabyte hard-drives sold? or a few MB of data transferring over the internet?

Are you considering adding sentiment analysis/clustering as one feature? You know, to let people read about different opinions, most often, they only need to read one post in each cluster.

They mentioned tensor2tensor, how is this related to another repo: seq2seg: https://github.com/google/seq2seq ? Which one is more general?

Why second best? I think it is the best for almost everything. One reason is that its grammar is so intuitive, that you only need to think about the problem to solve. With other languages, you always need to look out for grammar issues.

The HR person should at least understand the very basic technical terms, a.k.a, what it is and how are they related. I know HR/headhunters who think Hadoop/AWS are programming languages.

* Swift is one of the best-designed languages out there. One feature I dislike about swift is the Optional type and the "?!" business, borrowed from Scala, I assume. It makes coding experience much less pleasant, yet providing lit

The definition of a side project is not clear. Is it just for fun/learning about new tech, and can be thrown away? Or is it a serious endeavor, and supposed to be the next big thing? These require completely different mindsets.

I am from China. Call me selfish, but I really hope China Internet censorship is not discussed on HN. HN is one of the few sites I like that GFW (Great F king Wall) doesn't block. More threads about the 'sensitive' stuff abo

I guess with phantomjs, the page is rendered on CGN node? Is the computation cost too large to support many users on a single node? And is there any privacy concerns?

This is "the man" talking. The society/companies need specialized workers to be efficient and effective, and a specialist is more 'stable' than a full-stack engineer, especially when the skills he is good at is not

Indeed, it is very frightening what the companies can do with user's data. While in U.S, the data of a user may reside in the cloud of multiple companies and needs to be aggregated to be useful, in China, companies like Tencent knows a

+1 for this. I think 16G iPhone6 exists to promote sales of models with larger memory. Now I have to uninstall an app to install a new one on my iPhone(16G), EVERY TIME, it's painful. Next time, I will definitely go for 64G.

A major culprit of the bloat is the monolithic 3rd-party libraries/frameworks. You have to import the whole thing, even if what you need is just one simple function. Of course, you have the option of carefully studying the code, and ha

Perfect time to recommend a book: The Shallows. Digital information overload not only makes us less attentive, it also makes us shallow. We are exposed to so much information, that we have little time to think deeply about something.
