It looks like LAnewsLOUDLABS are graffiti artists who stay up all night filming accidents and crime scenes to sell to TV stations. Regarding the scanner, you can listen to LAPD with an iPhone app. The car starting on fire is similar to what

I was asked for a return ticket in Japan. I had to buy a return ticket in the customs lobby before I was allowed into the country.

Charge $100/hr and work 55 hours a week. The easiest way is to do something like network engineering or "oracle financials" for a huge corporation. iOS consulting also pays that much but finding the work isn't as easy.

I'd like to see more documents detailing how the system works, and specific instances of it being used to target american citizens. Something along the lines of the information eventually turned up about the Fast and Furious operation,

I didn't find them very revelatory. It just seems like typical CYA spook paperwork. Regarding the government lying, I don't see how that is news, either.

If I could gamble on this topic, my bet would be that there isn't any more interesting information. That said, I am interested in learning what the rest of the information is, so I can make up my own mind about the issue.

Greenwald/The Guardian won't release it out of fear of being brought up on similar charges. I don't know why they haven't released it already, unless it's just more of the same sort of vaguely incriminating powerpoi

Twenty employees at $100K each is $2M. A popular site can easily cost $60K a month. Office space in SF/PA/NYC is going to be about $50 per square foot. It all adds up pretty fast.

I might be confused about how it works, but isn't finding a place that can do the battery swap the same dilemma as finding a supercharging station? How does it help on a cross country road trip?

FWIW according to wikipedia there are 9.9 million Kims and 2.9 million Smiths. Kim is the most popular Korean surname and Smith is the most popular English surname.

I'd take that article with a grain of salt. There's much omitted from that account and it happened 12 years ago.

Is Google's HR data set really "Big Data" or just "data?" Seems like it would fit into a normal database. Or maybe even an unwieldy Excel spreadsheet.

It would be interesting to have a post about how to get a design job after working in another field. What does your portfolio look like? What does your cover letter say? What happens during an interview? Did you know the people beforehand?

It depends on the location. In my neighborhood in SF there was a guy who dressed up like a giant viking warlock with a leather pouch of coins that he would hand out to any homeless person who needed fare for the N-Judah.

No. It was a week long, paid interview. After a couple of days I decided not to come back. Mainly because the main project seemed illegal (which I'll admit held some criminal mastermind allure) and I had another job lined up in Japan.
