This is the Streisand Effect in action. (I am sure there are going to be people in a few years who learn of the Streisand Effect first and then learn about some random washed-up musician responsible for it second.)

Maybe natural light is a perk because it is nice to have (sometimes), but a door/actual office with a lock and soundproofing would then be a minimum baseline requirement. (I’d honestly prefer windowless to a window I couldn’t control,

Yes, but sending a human scuba diver down 3h/day to catch max 20kg of lionfish for $50-100 on loaded cost per dive, or $150-300/day is...not an efficient solution for that. If the fish could be sold at enough of a premium it migh

We tried this with lionfish in the Caribbean; it is just really challenging to catch them in a non-destructive way so they are economically viable. And IMO they don’t taste very good unless fried, at which point everything tastes the same.

Fuck BlackRock. Aside from their weird anti-2A politics (maybe driven by their fund managers, maybe driven by LPs), now they are trying to kill Tesla? (Driving Musk out as chairman might not itself cause serious problems, but it could also

I’m kind of surprised post-sales tax nexus Amazon hasn’t bought a coffee chain yet. Starbucks might be too big to do comfortably, but a combination of some higher end local brands (Intelligentsia, Philz, etc) aggregated into some overarchin

I'm happy enough to be indifferent on good-airline (JL, NH, SQ, CX, QR, EY, EK, etc.) in newer lie-flat all-aisle business class, and usually happier-than-on-ground in F (esp on something like JL). Premium Economy or economy-with-empt

Norway’s oil is inherently difficult compared to Saudi oil, but they already have a lot of infrastructure and skill and are incredibly competent. It would be different if we had just discovered the North Sea oil and had to decide between t

Cheap and safe to recover oil (like Saudi, Norway, etc) is way better for the environment than expensive (tar sands) or dangerous (badly run deep water operations.). Also, I would sure rather have the government and people of Norway get mon

Mostly, getting people to show up for trial. It might not be the best system, but it does work to some degree. For the same person, setting increased bail due to more serious allegations or greater flight risk does seem to make sense. That

I'm not sure if I agree with this change (there are positives and negatives to the bail system), but I love that in a federal system individual states are free to experiment like this. Maybe it will work, and then other states can adop

I wonder if this would make any sense in a tech company. I would generally think a CEO (who is on the board) is going to be more aligned with an engineer's interests than the CEO and a walmart cashier, but they still have some distinct
