I see-- no problem, thank you. I thought it was just user error or a UI bug because of this comment: > 90k records across 7,700 stations since January.

I think the FIRE crowd is even more likely to fall into this trap than the average wage slave. In addition to finding meaning in their day job, they're also more likely to forego short-term costs (like recreation/socialization

What we've lost in social media just makes me so sad. I hate that reels/stories have become the "new" way of sharing things (over the past 10 years). I took a trip to Yosemite last weekend and took the (rare) opportunity

I'm looking at buying a used Porsche Macan. Through 2021 they were absolute button-fests, with a console absolutely littered with physical buttons. In 2022, they moved to a piano black console with haptic "buttons". It also s

Yep. I've been able to use the "wrong" (but still valid) expiration date on my AmEx for a long time. I've had other credit cards where the autopay info was never updated and it just kept working for at least 6 months.

I have not. I'm not sure what this does for me. My ONT is not an optional expense and I'm not bothered by using cat6 here.

Could be negative! All it shows is that Uber is probably incentivizing token usage just like so many other companies are. You get what you measure.

It does, actually. I dismissed it originally because I don't need most of the capacity, but considering I have no 10GbE copper ports available, and my home is being remodeled and I'm running some new ethernet to the other side of

We had an interesting architecture situation at work. Puppet Enterprise uses a single Postgres server. The company had moved from a recommendation of using a single PuppetDB API node (which fell over at high load) to running a PuppetDB API

I'm surprised they got a reliable 10Gbps USB adapter. I've tried 3 of them and they're all trash. They cannot sustain multi-gigabit speeds and end up doing like 400Mbps when you hit them hard. I think I have sabrent and ugree

Yeah, my home is cat5e (I think!) and I was only able to get 2.5 or 5Gbps to my _single_ 10GbE capable machine I had at the time. So I ended up just buying a switch that supports 2.5Gbps over copper since it's such a huge expense to st

Yeah, 10GbE-over-copper switches are SO expensive. I bought a Ubiquiti enterprise switch for my home; 10Gb uplink and the copper ports are split between 2.5G and 1G. It's fine because only 1 or 2 clients can even talk 10G, and those ar

Right, but for example my fiber ONT only has an rj45 port so I'm stuck using one of these for the link to my UDM Pro. The router and my core switch use cheap DACs.

Weird. I worked near a Palantir office in 2017 and I remember thinking it would be "morally challenging" to work there. 9 years later, it's just becoming apparent?

Well also the desert southwest is still relatively sparsely populated, so rooftop solar won't show up as much on a map like this. Plus their power is cheap(er) than CA. But yeah, you'd expect some bigger utility-scale installation

I guess maybe I'm thinking of how the traditional DBA role seems to have significantly declined (at least, from where I sit). Maybe because that work is being pushed to the devs :)
