FYI, GPT-5 in GitHub Copilot has (almost) completely gotten rid of the “you’re absolutely right” and faux Californian enthusiasm those of us with a British English bias find so condescendingly irritating. ;) I should try Grok for comparison

As someone who is regularly involved in startup valuations, I think there’s quite a few million-dollar ideas in there—if not as standalone products, then at least as differentiation features for existing categories. I recently gave one of m

As someone who tried to use both, there is little you can do with it in practice when compared to Plan9. There was a _great_ baremetal port of Inferno to the Raspberry Pi, but there aren't any modern versions for other SBCs.

Seems to work fine, even if the license is a bit of a put off. I am however still looking for a fast CPU-bound embedding model (fastembed is quite slow on small ARM chips).

This is amazing and yet I think it would need an existential angst mode to capture those days when I am doing video calls with various teams all day. Maybe patching https://github.com/JerryZLiu/Dayflow/blob/ma

Not at scale. At scale, kubevirt has you covered, even without lightweight hypervisors.

Yes, but I am more concerned with server-side, where you need to do a bit more and with better performance.

Yep. I used it for a while and went back to VS Code for my personal stuff because there just wasn’t any visible improvement on the editor itself. Having a native UI is a great party trick, but the functionality needs to follow.

Nice, but every time I look into WASM I have to wonder if containers and/or lite weight VMs wouldn’t be simpler and have less restrictions. We seem to have forgotten about microkernels and custom runtimes (like the various Erlang ones)

There are other embeddable JS engines out there.

So, instead of using something lightweight and embeddable like QuickJS, they opted for Deno? Nothing specifically against it, just seems... overkill

It depends on how closely they monitor the network and how much these people abused it. A steady, slow increase in calls/messages on a site wouldn’t show up in stats unless there was a lot of constant congestion, and even then most tel

An MVNO seldom has access to per-cell data. They get the bulk traffic delivered to them (sometimes) and billing info, and that is that.

To avoid showing up on 2G/3G networks as a static congestion factor. SMS in 2G a can easily block calls if done intensively enough, since it’s part of the actual call signaling. We could tell when high-school classes ended by the sudde

I had an inkling these things existed (I’ve been in telco for a few decades), but the last ones I saw had nowhere near this scale. The amount of manual labor to put in the SIMs _and_ configure/remove the PIN codes must be staggering un

I’ve tried asking for it because embedded browsers in RSS readers can’t use extensions, but I am positive usability isn’t a priority…

There are plenty of Orange Pi boards with Armbian or unofficial Ubuntu support, but they’re ARM based.

I had a go at it a few months ago: https://taoofmac.com/space/reviews/2025/05/12/2230 Not bad at all, but the OpenWRT image still didn’t have Wi-Fi support a week or so ago, so I don’t know how good

Not really. Most in the ARM space, at least, are soldered on or you need to switch out the entire compute module. Intel ones (not mini-PCs, but industrial gear and things like the LattePanda) also tend to have soldered RAM.

Mail.app alone had enough issues and missing features to sustain an entire cottage industry, and would be one app I would certainly like to contribute to. But it shall never come to pass.

Good catch on the terminal. I missed that, and it might get me off Ghostty (I prefer to have less apps installed in general).
