“Choose boring tech” is a good parallel that has repeatedly worked out for me over the decades.

I stopped using Postman when it magically started connecting to a central server for… nothing useful, really. I have no idea why people would design software this way, especially a development tool that should work with any web server, unde

Now all we need is a "disable kindergarten mode" button to remove the superfluous whitespace in macOS.

I have an original Pi with BMC64 "permanently" slotted in. It seems to work great, even though I was a Sinclair ZX81/Spectrum kid.

I'm seeing a bit of everything: renegotiating (which Broadcom doesn't really do), optimizing and consolidating hosts (to lower costs), public cloud migration (which is why I see the most given my line of work, but may not represen

Like I keep pointing out time and time again, when I read HN through an RSS reader the embedded browser cannot run extensions and I get a white flash in the middle of the night when I click over.

I keep pointing this out every time dark mode comes up, so don't take it personally: embedded browsers (like the ones in RSS readers) cannot use extensions, and only native dark mode support in the site itself works there. It is _extre

No, but it falls into the platinum side of the equation. I can rent a cloud GPU for a few hours a month and come out ahead.

There are plenty of mini-PCs with USB4 and Oculink, and you can get an M.2 adapter (might be tricky to retrofit into a laptop though).

I would love to try out one of the mini-PCs that ship this, but they seem to be made of either platinum (hugely overpriced in EU) or unobtainium (no retailers carry them here, and getting something direct from China is dicey warranty-wise).

Hmm. Zeno's Paradox. (I was in college during the first AI Winter, so... I can't help but think that the cycles are tighter but convergence isn't guaranteed.)

As an EU resident with a modestly large flat who's dedicated 1/3 of it to a large living room because we prioritized room to relax and spend time together, I pine for the chance to have more than a pair of IKEA KALLAX to store (an

Yeah, good point on the FP4. I'm seeing people complain about INT8 as well, which ought to "just work", but everyone who has one (not many) is wary of wandering off the happy path.

About what I expected. The Jetson series had the same issues, mostly, at a smaller scale: Deviate from the anointed versions of YOLO, and nothing runs without a lot of hacking. Being beholden to CUDA is both a blessing and a curse, but what

Well… mixed feelings here. I spent a lot of time dealing with early smartphones and hacking away at Android, Tizen, FirefoxOS (remember that?) and several variations on that theme back when manufacturers were vying for differentiation, and
