I operate my own VPN endpoint for a couple reasons: 1. I frequently need to connect via open, untrusted local networks, such as those at hotels. 2. Many commercial VPNs (e.g., PIA) end up having some portion of their endpoint IPs end up on

Are you in any of the areas of Utah that are prone to a decent amount of winter weather? I'd be interested to know how the range is affected by cold weather. We routinely take 600-2000 mile (round trip) ski trips in the winter, so that

Blocking virtually all VPNs and VPS IP ranges is not the most pleasant practice. I realize this is likely a Hollywood demand, but absent any kind of other information from them, it sure appears that they are complicit in it. Further, they m

As far as I know, the closest you can get to that is an encrypted backup via iTunes. There are still things omitted from the backup, though. Developers themselves can prevent certain files from being backed up: https://developer.

To answer you both: I host mine on a DigitalOcean instance. The Streisand installer (bash script + Ansible playbook) has a number of built-in deployment targets (Amazon, DigitalOcean, Google, Linode, and Rackspace at the time I did mine), a

I have a private Streisand server [0] running for that reason. I got tired of dealing with most of the IPs for big VPN services being blocked on a lot of websites. [0]: https://github.com/jlund/streisand

Out of curiosity (if you're willing to share), did you actually find a decent source for ski condition data, or did you end up having to scrape and parse?

I'm a big fan of the icon font released by this project too[0]. It's similar in concept to Font Awesome, but I've sometimes found it fits my needs better. [0]: http://ionicons.com

The "500 rule" [0] is useful to know too. Without it, you risk star trails at higher exposure times. Then there's the need to avoid light pollution. This map [1] isn't super recent, but it's good enough for most use

Does it require full internet access to work? That's my biggest gripe with my Nest thermostat: it requires a round-trip through their server just to control the temperature, even when I'm on the same network.
