Oh I know. I'm a drinker myself. I'm just predicting that our society, becoming more and more health conscious, will start to look down on alcohol. Articles like this are the start.

This is how I see things going with alcohol. Some of the following assumptions are based on what my parents have told me about their generation (in Canada). - everybody used to smoke, now it seems crazy to most people - people also didn

Ok. I'll be the guy to bring up the Elixir/Erlang ideology that has gained such popularity here. Although I don't have a ton of experience with it yet it seems like the possibility of having the idea of "services" b

I have stock in Solar City and I don't care if I lose it all. It's not my life savings though. I invested because I enjoy day dreaming a similar dream to what Musk must be dreaming. Like any great science we just have to try and b

It's been a while (and therefore several versions since) I've done audio recording/editing but I was always impressed with Propellerhead's audio software. I remember using Reason alongside Adobe Audition or ProTools or w

This is great. I see/hear too much of this: "Well, you can run some kind of little site/app for free or around $5-10 month. So, I imagine a much larger and more serious app would be like... $50/month? At most?" It s

Lots of negativity here. I use SourceTree normally and although I'm a command-line comfortable vim/tmux/fugitive/etc kind-of-guy I've decided I like GUIs for GIT. GitKraken is worth watching IMO. So far I've li

Ha, I actually just saw this myself and the first thing I did was switch tabs to Hacker News to see if it was being discussed. But yeah, it seems to be back up now.

I totally agree. Even if we successfully build a future where we can have developers/designers jump right into their work without having to understand much about configuration/setup/etc we're still going to need people

It depends where you're at with the PHP stuff. If you're using a LAMP stack (as you mention) but using something like MAMP/XAMPP and keeping it simple, staying away from the terminal or PHP frameworks like Laravel, etc then

It's neat to see someone solve a problem that you didn't have any clue existed in the first place. I have a pressure cooker that I've never used. Am I understanding (from the rest of this thread) that I could be attempting t

I think the internet will become more and more invisible. Everything will be connected to it and just "do it's thing" (like the electrical grid). The web itself will eventually tone down. There will be less unique web apps

Yeah I have a small investment in SolarCity and I keep meaning to find out how they handle this situation. Imagine in 5 years some stories coming out regarding home owners having trouble selling (or losing value on) homes they equipped und

I still like a GUI from time to time. I use SourceTree. I can use GIT on the command-line and I'm a competent developer but I like to be able to click files and see the changes and just drag them into a commit. It may not be the fas

Is Ember the cool JS framework now? It seems nice enough to me. I have such a headache from thinking about this front-end framework idealogy. I've used a few tools but I generally don't make one-page apps so I stick to JQuery +

It seems really well done. However I can't help but think "is this really a use case for CSS; or more of a neat hack?". Is that why you're asking if it's worth continuing?
