I found a datasource, it's dated (2011) it shows people trust their "shop" which could be a dealer, chain, or independent. With a 37% split going to independent and 30% to dealerships. I think you are right that we probably

I'm well aware of that, I've personally changed my own oil, replaced the starter on an ex's car, replaced my mass airflow sensor, and have my own OBD-II scanner (crappy one). I'm not sure why this thread turned into mult

I wasn't arguing against independent shops, im well aware that they are capable of preforming excellent service. But the reputation of the shady mechanic exists for the same reason the reputation of the shady used car dealer exists. C

And how many of those people would take their car there after they switch jobs? I'm betting very few. Also things like tires and oil changes are different than major repairs.

I would wager that the vast majority of non-enthusiasts do not have a "business they trust and have a good relationship with" that isn't the dealer.

Have you ever shipped large complicated software? Even simple changes take a lot of time. For example the recent error 53 bug, in theory all they had to do was roll back a commit. But it still took weeks to get it out.

I had a similar issue, but it's because I had setup the nest incorrectly. It asked about my equipment and about my setup, and I got it wrong. So when it would try to turn on the heat it would not turn the blower on. Once I fixed the

The past few days when I walk by my nest thermostat in the morning I've seen an error saying that it isn't connected to my wireless network. When in fact it is connected, and can be reached through the nest app on my phone.

I do think that right now github has multiple issues swirling around it, a lot of people and open source projects are looking for alternatives. Sourceforge used to be the place for open source software, the sooner you can offer a compellin

I would argue that this kid should be punished no more than he would be for breaking into anyone's email. The CIA should require nation state level effort to break into, not bored 15 year old effort.

Well, they seem like they get their target audience more than Dice did. If I were them I'd start trying to emulate and improve upon github. Seems like right now would be the time to strike.

I agree, the wink hub already ships with something like 5 different radios. Also this doesn't look like it supports mesh networking. What advantages does it offer over z-wave or zigbee? And will it be better than Insteon's or Lu

I agree, I don't need the perspective of an author over top of the launch audio feed. I liked the rougher but more authentic streams they did in the past.

I just plugged the bulbs in, flipped the light switch on and off 3-5x and then added them from the app. I'm not even sure if I had to reset the bulbs by flipping them off/on but I did just to be sure.

That warning means the hue is having trouble talking to that bulb. It may be turned off at the switch, out of range, or removed from service.

The most popular alternative bulb is the GE Link bulb. Roughly the same price as the hue lux bulbs but brighter, and available in more stores (in my experience.)

Seems like the best way to defeat the American War machine, is to dismantle it's manufacturing sector. Artificially lower <manufactured product> prices by subsidizing production in China, wait for American producers to fold. Wa
