Whilst I generally agree with you that these drugs alone don't magically "wake people up", wouldn't you agree that one of the primary functions of government is to ensure social stability? It would therefore be strange for governments not t

Although I think that LSD and other psychedelics have great potential for aiding therapy and introspection, I think there's a lot of evidence against the idea that it automatically 'wakes people up to the system'. It takes more than just t

This is another bunch of straw-men. I nowhere suggested going back to how things were before, and my proposal explicitly rejected the idea of allowing self-proclaimed doctors.

He said they'd shut up about Apple, and instead are making radical changes. Perhaps the fact that they continue to publicly attack Google means that they don't think they need to respond with a strategy change.

Marco has explained why he doesn't make an Android client. It has nothing to do with delicate sensibilities. It's pure economics. His business model is based on selling a paid app, and based on his numbers, doing that on Android won't pay

Mentioning witch-doctors, homeopaths and acupuncturists is a straw man. It seems to me that that private group of scientifically grounded medical practitioners who certified their members, but had different criteria from the state licensing

What user complaints? The only people saying that the iPad can't be used for content creation are blogosphere commentators arguing that it can't replace a laptop yet.

Sarcasm aside, you're missing the point. Why isn't it sufficient to regulate the title 'Doctor' without preventing other practitioners from practicing? People who wanted a traditional medical practitioner would be protected, and those who w

Here is a great programming environment you can run with only an iPad: http://twolivesleft.com/Codea/ If you mean that you can't develop native apps using only an iPad, that is true. For that you need to buy other tools (e.g. a Mac mini),

You originally said 'the majority should choose period', not 'the majority should choose only in cases where you can't have it both ways'. If democracy somehow limited itself to cases where you can't have it both ways, that would be great.

Just to clear this up, there is nothing at all about the 'recent things from apple' that prevents kids using them to make software, except for price. In fact I'd say that Apple's stack is outstanding for this purpose because it goes all the

That's fair enough but it doesn't render the whole issue void. For example, a vast majority of the people might share the wish to select a leader best equipped to improve the countries economic prospects. If that is what the overwhelming ma

My point is simply that whatever the intentions, democracy has devolved to selecting leaders, and for the most part they aren't even representative. I'd say measuring the ideal instead of the reality isn't all that useful.

I'd like to know how its model of transaction isolation works given that reads and writes are claimed to be independent. It seems as though a 'transaction' is defined as an atomic set of updates, but doesn't involve reads.
