I think the HN bubble is far detached from the real world. If you own 100k+ of assets, most of the people in the world will see you as incredibly rich. If you own a house in the Bay Area even with a mortgage most Americans will see you as r

Anyone else run into SOx problems where audit wont let DevOps staff make changes to meaningful source code. How do you get around that? Seems like an insurmountable barrier to proper devops.

The point is most people dont want to work, but society needs people working to provide food, build the things we use, create gas/electricity, help the sick etc. Its an argument about the fairest way to do this. Allowing some people re

Most people still do have their first child in their (admittedly late) 20s. > The average age of first-time mothers was 28.6 years in 2015, compared with 28.5 years in 2014. https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommu

One thing about free healthcare and no real property taxes is that its a lot easier to retire early. If they lived in a coastal city in the US they probably couldn't retire because they'd need 40k USD per year in healthcare costs

I dont like when they dont define the subject. eg if you're a "fullstack developer" are you a generalist or a specialist? If you're an artist who does some web design work are you a generalist or a specialist?

Agreed - also the central planners products aren't that great, I'd dispute that China dominates anything except manufacturing. Juiceros are made in China and there are very few Chinese cars exported.

Ownership is more about control that sharing the profits. So after a few years the staff can fire the founder? nice. We must be getting to the top of this bubble.

If you restricted London to 1% foreign born people you wouldn't see a housing shortage either - currently 37% of London's population was born outside of the country. The article quickly dismissed that political choice, but it seem

No problems from me. NY schools already have a security guard on duty that watches everyone coming and going through the front door. Its not always easy job, anything that can help them would be great.

If you keep building more and more housing you'll end up with a mega city like NYC, Tokyo, Paris, Cairo, Munbai etc etc. Those places are still expensive, just bigger. SF could easily go that route. The people who live and own there do
