Man, I'm feeling stronger about LK-99 being it. This paper is theoretical and she finds that particular Cu substitutions onto specific Pb atomic sites are key to enabling a band structure that is usually linked to high Tc superconducto

It's only been a week! I'm a materials scientist and the recipes for material growth are true for their systems. I have to find the truth on my system, so if a recipe calls for a deposition temperature of 100 C and anneal at 600 C

"Just a 48yo American engineer who allegedly shouldn't have had access" We don't know that at all. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Their PPMS is limited to 400K. There's nothing they can do about that. So yes, it is a nitpicking. I've used the same instrument, that's the max temperature quantum design allows without forking over more money. It matters t

Useful? It would be a veritable revolution if we had access to room temperature, ambient pressure superconductors. Applications would be everywhere, even new ones would arise from people tinkering with it.

Other experimental groups have failed to reproduce his results. There's good reason to be skeptical of this until we get multiple groups confirming it's real.

Jesus christ these headlines. Ambient is supposed to mean room temperature and pressure. This alleged superconductor is a high pressure one. External groups have not been able to reproduce his results.

Orcas are orcanizing! Orcas are cultural animals that are similar to us in that fads are a thing for them. A while back they had a fad where they'd kill a salmon and wear it as a hat. I think this is a fad, they're having fun, it&

The clones that drew the most attention all ended up becoming right-wing cesspools. I remember they were often created because of free-speech absolutism which was code for "I want to express hateful views without consequence".

In my opinion the Fed should be more decisive and data-dependent. In 2021 the Fed stubbornly stuck to an "inflation is transitory" narrative that meant they did not start raising rates all of 2021 when most people could see the ex

No it definitely is technical, we need a lot of materials science and RF electronics to get things to work better with each other. We need better material growth and device fabrication techniques and better readout schemes.
