Interesting. I had to make a conscious effort to go the other way around, i.e.: to talk more about me. I grew up reading too many books aimed at the extroverts among us ("There's a reason we have 1 mouth and 2 ears!"; "S

I wonder how to tell whether one's reached that sweet spot. Is it when the lift hasn't increased for months? And of course there's the variable of age as well.

Were you referring to people like Andy Hug of Kyokushinkai? I believe he suffered from an illness, but in general I suppose having a full-contact punching and kicking bouts with gigantic men isn't very good for your long-term health an

Do you think one can lift heavy but with machines, and get the same risk/reward ratio as bodybuilders? In other words, train for power (rather than hypertrophy), but instead of using barbells, use dumbbells or machines, to minimize the

How was it able to run the code directly for you? For me it said it didn't have access to external libraries.

That's very interesting. Somehow, not in an unkindly sense, I can't help but feel it's a bit like "prompt engineering". Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thank you for this, yes the church helps quite a bit here, with the community and the activities for the elderly. Appreciate you sharing the advice and experience.

"You are definitely not alone" -- that gives me comfort, thank you for this. I have not actually looked for such an association. I'll do so.

Thank you for this. I did try to look for some psychiatric help, but it wasn't easy. Many of them are younger than me so they don't understand and/or cannot empathize. It is a long road indeed. Physically my mother seems extr

Thank you for sharing, I appreciate it. I do need to grow thicker skin. I'm taking these hallucinations too personally I guess. I reject your reality and substitute my own. <-- I love this quote!

I appreciate this, thank you for sharing. I spend so much time at work being logical and "fixing/troubleshooting" people's wrong thinking, that I often forget to flip the mode. On the memory care, I agree I think it woul

I love these books! I re-do them every few years (well close to 10 years after I've read my copy for the first time). Great great fun.

This is exactly my sentiment as well. I'm still deeply in the Java ecosystem. It was stagnant for a while, especially between Java 5 and 8 (which spanned multiple years). But now that it's modern, and it's moving quickly... I

With the faster pace for Java now, I wonder if I'm the only one feeling lesser need / lesser incremental benefit of moving to Kotlin. Yes, some of my fellow engineers like it for the language itself, but I feel these days it'

My father passing away. Not because of COVID, it happened in 2019. Somehow it triggered my awareness and focus on taking care of myself better. It made "death" very real for me, to the degree that it had never been up to that poin

I got early heads up for this. Did a back-of-envelope calculations to compare the price of books I'm reading at O'Reilly and the USD399 price. It turned out all the books I'm currently reading at O'Reilly for real (i.e.:

Modern Java in Action is a fantastic book. It goes into Streams, Optionals, new Date Time API, basically the "big features". More recent changes are relatively smaller and probably don't need a full book to cover. Would recom

That was exactly my point. Perhaps a clearer, if much more verbose phrasing, would be: "If you've used org-roam before and then moved to Obsidian, what are the benefits you realize only after moving to Obsidian?" I don'

Exactly this. I have a hard time using Roam Research now that I'm on org-roam, but org-roam DOES feel slower and have more friction. One of those cumulation of little things that make it so, I suppose.
