I like your comment, and your last name. I have an Uncle named Jim. This isn't him, is it? That would be quite the coincidence. --- I think the next best blogging platform will be one that does what WordPress used to do. I have my eyes

I've had two Medium articles get over 1.1k views and a 90%+ readership. I have about 6 subscribers on my WordPress blog that gets ~100 views a day. Just putting that out there. Make of it what you will. By the way, I once had an articl

I use Digg for feeds and soundcloud/youtube for podcasts. If the podcaster isn't using those mediums, I don't listen to them because there is a lack of a good audio podcasting listening service. Although... I have tried to us

All you need to do is sign in with a Twitter account. As far as I know, that doesn't cost you money.

You are missing the point. Words are the backbone of any deliverable content. You said it yourself, in your own words: "...people would rather READ the Economist in color than b & w...," which I agree with. And you can sell pl

It's not that I am against signing up with Facebook, it's just that every service I've used with a FB login claims to help make oneself more social; however, that is hardly ever the case. As for wanting to meet people in my area with simila

Sure. I'll do my best to clear things up. Unions are a combination of bad and good, just like corporations, franchises, and any other organization. One of the major flaws of the union for me is that you can't get promoted on the job based o

I have heard of fully automated ports, but not Euromax in particular. I suppose the ILWU and ILA do have a lot of political power when you compare them to other ports. But from my perspective, we are losing more and more ground each day. Si

I get this alot. The truth is that longshoremen do have the potential to make a decent amount of money -- but in reality, only a small % of them do. Pay starts off in the lower 20's and get get as high as 40-45 depending on the job you get

Automation is coming, without a doubt. The problem right now is implementation. A lot of the terminals have had computer screens with GPS that either don't work or are way too faulty. The terminal I worked at today ordered several new autom

Hi. Longshoreman here. I work around at the busiest port(s) in the USA and the 5th busiest port(s) in the world. Driving through and working around the 100,000's containers at the harbor never gets old even after working there for 7 years.

I'm checking it out, thanks. From what I've been told, what I want to do is a "big project" -- in the words of another commenter: "you're going to need front end design and code (html, css and javascript), some sort of server side code (php

A couple of languages have been suggested to me already. I just don't know what one is best for my purposes. I was told to start with HTML5 and CSS3. Someone told me to stay away from Django, but to learn Python. Does all code get the same

I've tried to get started a few times and I am finding it to be the most frustrating thing I've ever done in my life. I think there is something in my brain that is completely against what is involved with coding; it's like I have some cogn

Commenting online is an afterthought, and it is really sad to me why this is so. Disqus and Livefyre are what most people use, but they have a ton of room for improvement. Some might say that they are doing really well, which would be true;

Thanks for the reply and your thoughts. You definitely gave me more to think about. This is obviously something that does require lots of thought considering it's (i.e., mentorship) basically what Robert Greene's new book is about.
