Check out https://twitter.com/systemdsucks My biggest personal grievance is how it handles DNS or rather how unpredictable and undocumented the process is. If everything fails, e.g., they actually hard coded usage of 8.8.8.

From what I heard, this is not true for the Dell XPS 13 and other new Notebooks that supposedly run well with Linux. I get almost 5 hours out of my decade-old Thinkpad T410 (original battery). My 2018 Macbook Pro 13" with touchbar only

I don't have kids myself but what always amazes me with my friends is the drama when the kids have to go to bed. One friend doesn't force his kids (3 and 4) to go to bed at a specific time. They can stay awake and play (quietly) f

Why would you think that? If he wanted to be compliant he only needs two things: 1. Some procedure that allows him to answer users privacy requests ("what information about me do you have?", "Please delete my personal data fr

China is not what many people make it our to be. Comparing to just a couple of decase ago, it now has a huge educated middle class. I don't think China is a free country, but if you dig a little, you'll see that many people openly

Good explanation of the options. I needed this half a year ago and found a solution and stackoverflow. Using MAX and CASE still feels like an ugly hack, though.

Yeah sure. Remind me when I buy my next iPhone for a ~45% markup compared to the US prices. The 64GB 4.7" iPhone 8 is $699.00 in the US and $998 (799 EUR) in Germany.

But these problems don't exist if you use a service like Stripe. You never ever store any confidential customer information on your own servers.

That's not how Stipe and similar services work. They exist to prevent your scenario. They actually work very similar to Paypal except that you don't have to be redirected to the Paypal site to enter your credentials. Instead you g

I was once in an underground train tunnel fire. There was no real danger (at least I'd like to think so), but it was interesting to watch how people reacted. In some folks eyes you could see hysteria taking control and the brains shutt

I edited lots of screencasts in Blender. Can confirm it's more than suitable and above basic. There is a complete series on Youtube on how to use Blender for video editing.

If it is a complex project, I usually would avoid a rewrite. There is good literature on how to approach modernization of legacy applications step-by-step. Read it, apply it. In the end the modernization is a re-write. It's just one wh

It's not about disarming police officers, it's about disarming the public. We have armed police officers in Germany. The number of people they shoot per year is close to nil. They can expect no one is going to kill them and act th
