Lets propose that pattern recognition is indeed something different than what most people would call intelligence. If this is so then there should be a statistically reliable way to measure pattern recognition in a way that does not also me

General relativity is not a basic assumption in physics. There is a large feeling that there is something more out there , but that we don't really know what it is . Some theories of dark energy or dark matter work by modifying gravity

To expand on this , growth is real , and it's not random. Value for society is created by having money directed towards more beneficial projects.

If the economics of Idaho are so awful for poor people then maybe they should move to California or Oregon where it is so much better because of the unions.

Just because something correlates with parental income doesn't mean that it isn't heritable. Take an example that you agree with. Being white (or Asian) correlates with parental income. Those traits are also rather heritable.

I am personally happy to see that this happened in Vermont and not on the federal level. We now have the opportunity to see the impact this has on the citizens of Vermont and whether or not the regulations are effective. Nothing beats exper

That part is spot on, he's showing how history rhymes. It's an example of humans historically making the same mistake of not reasoning about unanticipated consequences.

Fair market value is not defined uniquely in one off transactions. It's very possible that what happens in both nations is a fair market price. If this is true it then becomes natural to ask how we, the taxpayer, can get a better deal

Your argument sounds nice, but does not offer sufficient proof for your rather strong statement "so the natural biological differences are irrelevant". This is a claim which could be scientifically tested. For example researchers

Good catch, I did say it wants to provide all the answers, but I guess that wasn't exactly the idea I was trying to get at. I think the more fleshed out idea is that some people want science to provide all the answers. These people, li

To put some numbers to this, lets take the model that damage scales with weight per surface area to the fourth power. If you double the number of axles but maintain the same weight. Then there is half as much stress on twice as much area, 1

My first reaction is that there is no reason to use entropy. In physics you can prove that Hamiltonian motion leads to ergodic behavior and that creates the push to higher entropy. In an economic system I question that ergodicity would be s

If you take the 2d Fourier transform of the sequence and the low frequency components go to zero the point process is hyper uniform [1] . Poison disk noise has this property but is generally slow to generate. [1] http://arxiv.org
