Can anyone clarify what this quote refers to: "what really sets Erlang apart, for McCord, is its ability to preschedule processes so that the CPU doesn't get hung up on any single thread." What's this concept called? Is

Completely agreed, but sometimes blog posts by ordinary writers end up on the front page here, and it’d be good to consider that maybe they weren’t expecting tens of thousands of people would read it. In this case I think it pays to cut the

Imagine realizing you wasted a decade of your life in the false hope of making a difference, but couldn’t because of a dysfunctional community dynamic… I can’t because I haven’t done that, and perhaps you can’t either. It may read this way

Even more, foreign sources often lack context (and in some cases, language skills) to make proper sense of a story. That said it’s still a good practice to read an outside perspective.

I think it's more about asserting yourself to the degree that you're able to be persuasive, and no more. For example, it's possible for me to be correct, but not be able to persuade others to my point of view. If I take up a

Some interesting charts on this page. The 7.12% rate consists of a 0.00% fixed rate and a 3.56% inflation rate. The formula is: Composite rate = [fixed rate + (2 x semiannual inflation rate) + (fixed rate x semiannual inflation rate)] 7.12%

I was going through my things this weekend and I found an old iPod and one of those speakers with an integrated iPod holder. Was about to try and give the speaker away, but instead I set it up, put it on shuffle, and it’s delightful. Like a

Just to clarify, does emacs/magit really pop up when you run "git rebase -i" on the command line? I haven't experienced this, but maybe that's because my EDITOR env var is set to "vim". I would find that v

This is now a feature of hacker news itself, as of a year or two ago (?). No extension required. I think the parent comment wants a feature to collapse all comment threads at the same time, so only the top level comments are visible.
