Your local instance of github and github.com are not redundant / interchangeable. If either of those goes down and you rely on it, the other one is not gonna help you much, so availability is not improved by using a local instance.

Well the discounts I'm mentioning, both the finance rate and the cash discount, are coming from the manufacturer, not the dealers. For example, here's a Forester at 0.5% rate OR $2K cash discount (might need to choose BC as region

The financing rate is 0% because the MSRP of the car is slightly inflated. If you pay with cash, you get a cash incentive (e.g. $2000 off), if you pay by financing, you get a similar discount but in the form of a lower nominal interest rate

I used 2.1, it has all the same flags, and I did turn them on because they're not enabled by default. It's completely insane without those flags, but even with them enabled I still ran into many surprises. For example, like the ot

In my experience with TS, its unsoundness was very frustrating. If you use it as a replacement for JSDoc where type ascriptions are more like recommendations, sure, but I like to have more confidence than that in a type system. FlowType is

Wow, lots of unbalanced Electron hate in this thread. Sure it's ugly, but it's also an extremely productive and empowering platfotm, that's why it's so popular. Building a web app and a cross platform desktop app is a co

Personally I prefer English UI because original is better than even professional translation, never mind half assed translation. As the most trivial example, software UI tends to use words that are short in English, e.g. "User" an

You could make some of the same arguments against prop types - what if you miss them, what if they are incorrect (too narrow). Regarding third party libraries, with prop types you are effectively writing your own bindings to the parts of th

If you don't trust your JSON input to be of proper type, you should validate its type immediately when you receive it, before you start fanning it out to your code. Spreading this work to prop types just makes it harder to keep track o

It is though. Runtime type validation is just a clutch that's needed when you don't have compile time validation.

There are plenty good languages today that compile to JS: Scala, OCaml, Clojure, just to name a few. And if you really like JS but want types, check out Facebook Flow, it's better than Typescript even though it's not as popular.

Wireless internet is not a solution – it's very obviously inferior to wired if you don't need the mobility. More expensive, lower bandwidth, higher latency, lower reliability.
