Do software trial periods generate much buzz? Because that's what this is, only it's a website, it's free and I have to wait on average 12 hours to actually see it without registering. I fail to see any logic, sorry.

The worst thing is that even though this story received a lot of attention in Russian media and people are well aware and furious about it, there is nothing that will be done about it. Neither the president nor the prime minister nor the pa

Maybe they just want to prevent others from doing this. Or they could be preparing some location-based ads/offers for iPhone.

Actually, I now see that I have originally misread descent angle for glide ratio, but still, even 1/2 of 747's performance is great. Natural selection!

That's nearly as good gliding ratio as Boeing 747, FWIW.

That's all great, but imagine how much self-evident patents were probably filed. Like that sparklines-in-a-document patent.

The only real reason I see for the approval process is safety - your phone has direct access to your money, unlike your computer. Maybe Apple could make a "safe mode" which would not allow an app to be destructive, and only require approval

1) Improve design in all aspects (change logo, colors, ajaxify (esp. simple things like renaming a file)) 2) Differentiate. Don't assume I don't know about dropbox and the like.

Not a spreadsheet but any kind of document, if I understand it correctly. ADDED: So, they applied a patent for embedding "small graphics" in a document. Oh well...

Overreaction in this case is absolutely rational. You lose nothing by panicking loudly, but you bring more public attention to the issue.

It's not the engine that makes difference. Internal combustion engines don't vary by orders of magnitude in efficiency. It's less friction, higher scale and constant speed that make trains more efficient. Diesel or electrical, does not matt

27" Screen would so much more useful if only OS X had system-wide font size settings^. Parsing 10px fonts from a distance of even a couple feet is far from accessible. ^ Resolution independence anyone?
