I agree that some people may want to see more evidence than others. Of course, there is no clear boundary between "obvious" and "needs proof". However, I found that most people are quite able to judge whether it would be

While I like your friendly answer, I would really prefer sources to be mentioned alongside statements in HN discussions. Saying "just google it if you do not believe me" places the burden of verification on the reader, whereas it

Have such plans been announced/alleged? As far as I know, there are only a handful, multinational operators with own cell tower infrastructure. The rest are more or less just resellers.

Maybe the requirements of the DoD are different than those of a city administration? When the City of Munich switched from MS to Linux/OpenOffice, they had to port 21,000 macros [1]. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LiMux

In 2010 I saw a keynote by Ari Kristinn Jónsson [1] in which he explained how they designed and implemented semi-automated scheduling software for the Mars Exploration Rovers at NASA. Could it be that there are people in NASA who already ha

We are treating humans differently, too. I love my children more than someone I meet on the streets. Generally, our society considers it still ethically ok to have different amounts of empathy for different people and treat them differentl
