Our very being, not just consciousness, is inseparable from our physical body. One day you maybe able to create an exact clone of the body to house the mind, but what good that would be? The body would be an exact clone with all its flaws.

If you listen to them talk, there is some interesting stuff there, like formal logic, but the lion's share is just arguing about semantics and nuances of translation from the original German. I think that describes what it is to work with

It is not easy to lay off a public servant in Finland, but I think it is mainly so because of the procedure required. Several written warnings need be given that state the reason in plain text. Too often it just takes too much balls from th

Very neat idea, but I think the reliance in bit.ly is self-defeating. This kind of approach would allow people to distribute documents using the web without having to trust them to a particular server, which can be very convenient if your

I found that odd too. In Haskell you have to use monads only for I/O, and for that IMO they are a fine abstraction. (Monads are a fine abstraction to many other things too that have a lot less to do with side-effects.) You are free to use

The use of DWORD as a type should, in my opinion, already state that the value is always non-negative. Explicitly checking for it might even be a bad thing, as it can distract the reader. He might not check the type and let negative numbers

By my observation, this is pretty common logical fallacy. If from A follows B, many will deduce that from B follows A. This often happens in math, when a lemma says that A => B is true. Many will use the lemma "the wrong way around".

It may not feel like it, but that is pretty much what languages like Java do. At run time, the type of the receiver is evaluated and the correct method is selected based on that. So we have the dispatch function, and a way to map results of

In SICP (where I assume this is taken from) they actually solve this problem. They have a dispatch function (as multi-methods have in Clojure) and a map from dispatch values to action functions. In that case you can extend the evaluator by

At least here in Finland the lines were put in by a government owned company. Which was then privatized and later sold to Sweden. That private company now truly owns the lines, and the government is scratching it's head because it has pass

Most people shopping at the supermarket could not see the difference between human meat and cow meat. Kiddie porn is not that hard to spot. It's interesting how we tie the act of consuming a product to the act of producing it. Sometimes it'
