We got lots coming in the pipe. Thanks for the feedback -- had a great discussion here a few weeks ago with unalone about the social aspect of reblogging. I think that will move the needle.

Hm, so I guess the answer is mostly no. =/ The biggest site on there is wego.com. Great site, and I think they open sourced much of their Rails CouchDB integration. But only 30k unique visits per month.

Does anyone know of large production websites that use CouchDB extensively?

How does this compare to CouchDB (restful http-based json doc-oriented, etc.)?

Popularity matters, self-promotion matters, etc. It matters a ton. That's how distribution happens. As a startup, that's the most important thing out there. We get stuck in 'if you build it they will come' mode when we build our startups, b

I switched from Vista to OS X this year. I made the stupid mistake of trying to develop Rails on a Windows machine. And it was not worth the trouble at all. If you're going to devote your life and livelihood to building software on Rails, d

Twitter isn't going to die. The argument that Twitter is like high school is valid. What's not valid is saying that high school doesn't matter or isn't how the world works. Twitter is like high school because the real world is like high sch

Exactly right. Email is private and will never go away. But twitter is useful. They're just different. So different, that we created posterous to bridge the gap. =)

I actually enjoy hearing about feature releases from other YC startups. I accept your feedback but respectfully disagree. If you don't like it, please don't upvote it.

Oh, we do use Sphinx. It's excellent. It would be insane to write your own full text searching or rely on MySQL's built in indexing.

The concept of bubbling up conversation to the top level of one's own published blog is fascinating. I didn't quite understand reblogging before reading your explanation, and I think that's the main downside to the scheme, but there is cert

We used to do prefix and infix search, but the amount of value provided was not huge. It also really blows out your indexes / indexing time. I'd like to add this back at some point, but we're not there yet. As for supporting equimatch using

Was using sphinx + ultrasphinx, but was talking to Evan Weaver the other day and he mentioned thinking_sphinx is the one to use now since Pat Allan is really intensely working on it, so we switched over to that in this release. Note: For la

Dan, awesome ideas man. For the homepage, one thing we obsess about is keeping the choices dead simple obvious. (see tyranny of choice problem) We want people to try posterous, and I'd be worried a search box would be pretty distracting. Bu

The rabid responses to Tom's post both shocked and surprised me as well. They just seemed a little bit more spirited than I would expect. It was a little schadenfreude-infused, to say the least.

PG's advice is right. Take down all the fences -- you have less than 20 seconds to impress the user into staying on your site. It's an attention economy -- asking for signup/login before providing real value = squandering that attention.

I don't think that's true at all. It depends on how much use you really can drive. With an online app, with no app install, and purely organic growth and a whole ton of community evangelism, I could see it be a really successful web app. Ar
