DynamoDB encourages eventual consistency by charging .5 for each read capacity unit consumed on an eventually consistent read.

I love uber and use it daily. I live in NYC where taxis have been getting worse and worse over the past few years. I am very concerned about how much their "contractors" make though. Some of the drivers I speak to claim they can m

It's very possible but unlikely until the next version of the device. Basically you would need an IR transmitter that had a web endpoint and could control your TV/set top box. I have ridiculous hacks where I set an alarm/remi

What is so bad about the iOS app? It hasn't bothered me but I don't use it very much.

So, here's the thing that I like about it... if google now had an API then you could build an app that talked to google now for you. I like the idea that I can host my own echo endpoints at echo.ranman.org and then have my own server m

Disclaimer: I work for AWS (not Amazon but part of Amazon). I like the idea that this is backed by a service that has an API that can call out to other APIs. It has an "app store". I think you can sign up for the SDK already: htt

It's so hard to keep up with all the new features. This is so cool -- I'm excited to see people use it. Now if only I had the traffic to play with it.

I love slate and have used it for years... it's no longer actively maintained and has a lot of performance bugs. I've started using other window managers like https://github.com/ianyh/Amethyst

I've honestly never trusted these guys who claim to speak 30 distinct languages. Can it all be tested at once?

Re: pricing -- good question I'm going going to test that. Re: gigabyte seconds: It's how much memory (RAM) you're using: 128mb RAM (lowest possible value) for 10s == 1 GB/s 1gb RAM for 1s == 1 GB/s I think it'

I think AWS is betting big on Lambda (I work there). So I think you'll see a lot of continued innovation around the service. They're pretty intense about consuming customer feedback and iterating on it so if you have an idea or de

p99.9 was 100ms for me. p50 was 10ms. Did 100k requests. Did these tests back in November during the preview. I imagine it has different latency now so those numbers are probably close to useless.

All of those limits are typically to protect users from being over charged if they fat-finger something. Most limits like that can be lifted with a support ticket. I'm not sure if this is one of them but I think it's likely.

Comments like this make me think that I never want to be interviewed by you. What do you think about going over code that someone has written previously and asking them questions about it? Do you ask the same coding questions every time?

From an executable standpoint there's not a ton of lockin -- anything running a certain version of libc should behave the same way. You can compile an executable that will work on both Ubuntu and Amazon Linux.

That's the on demand pricing. You should check the math on reserved pricing and consider the TCO. Not saying you're wrong but it's at least important to accurately compare.
