I wasn't familiar with Project Aria, as mentioned in the article. Searched for it, and found the facebook connect demo. I enjoyed that the demo'er was kind enough to refer to Aria as an Evil-lution @ 32 seconds in. https:/&

I’m assuming you’re talking about private app based transit here, not public busses and trains, based on the relationship to software. If that’s true you may be shifting the ownership of the physical goods used to transport you, but as long

West coast experience does not match the rest of the country. Outside the largest cities and wealthy suburbs, you’d be hard pressed. Especially on an average salary.

There's no moral issue here. Sales people are going in and copying and pasting data field by field, and we made that process more efficient. All that software did is replace multiple clicks with one. Scrape the DOM and dump it into the

There’s actually quite a bit of data that’s viewable to anyone, logged in or not, that’s public. All we did was speed up what was happening anyway. Sales people all across the world copy and paste data from LinkedIn to sales force every day

I used to work on one of those extensions. The lengths linkedin goes to "protect" public data is kind of absurd. If they poured those resources into building tools for salespeople the site would be far more valuable. Or, they coul

Overwork is better than no work. Automation may be part of the solution, but on its own it fails.

While the UMWA certainly has a vested interested in keeping coal mining jobs around, blaming unions for protectionism here is a little far down the value chain.

No, but that’s often regulated against, and much easier politically to deal with. The problem is that a flag is, well, a flag. It’s treated as if they’d planted a tree and I’m upset but the wind rustling the leaves. I’ve looked for anything

It’s a regional thing I suspect. It’s a big problem in utah, home of the Diesel Brothers and some of the worst air pollution in the country. It’s just recently illegal here. One guy doing it might not be that meaningful but, that’s true of

My neighbors put up a 20 foot plus wide American flag. It’s absurdly loud. When it storms and gets wet, it’s all I can hear inside my house. While I don’t think it’s the next public health crisis, it’s certainly a crisis for me. And no, the

My mail carrier can't read my mail because I'm in the US and there are laws against it. There are certainly mail carriers in the world that can and do read mail. The answer here is privacy laws and auditability.

As a field, I think UI/UX has a ton of anxiety about it's place in the cannon of design. There's a pretty clear path from that anxiety to these hollow attempts to justify itself as a "serious discipline." Look at th

When I visited last AWS was planning to open a large data center near taipei with similar AI ambitions. It's a small island and it's interesting to me that these two giants are both headed there with similar projects in mind.
