I love the e-ink on the Kindle with the only downside being that reading in the dark requires a lamp. Battery life is another huge plus in favour of e-ink.

Exactly. We have the same couch as well (in a small guest room)and it's fantastic in theory (lots of internal storage space, incredibly easy to convert between bed & couch) but in practice it makes for an uncomfortable bed as well as a

Not sure about NZ & Oz but you would never see it written "tyre" in Canada and I bet most Canadian's would have no idea "tyre" was an alternative spelling for tire.

This is a really great (well written, entertaining, informative, inspiring) series of articles about a guy programming just for the joy of it! Thanks for posting.

Agreed. I found the contrived chained filters at the beginning of the article off putting but the rest of the article was quite interesting.

It is pretty amazing how far down the rabbit hole you can go in "5 why's". Louis C.K. does a very funny bit on the topic of the OP (NSFW I think) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJlV49RDlLE&feature=playe...

Yes, non ferromagnetic materials are still subject to some inductive heating due to eddy currents* but I have no feeling for how much. *I've had the pleasure of being MRI'd a few times in a 4 Tesla research MRI (normal MRI's operate around

That's correct. Titanium is widely used for implants and is non-ferromagnetic so you can safely be MRI'ed with a titanium implant.

matplotlib is the defacto standard for plotting data in Python and could definitely be considered a hurdle. I haven't followed to closely but it looks like support for 3.x is coming along nicely[1]. GUI toolkits like wxPython and PyQT/PySi

Great news. The two biggest hurdles for Python3 adoption were/are Numpy/Scipy and Django. Now that Numpy/Scipy both officially support Python 3.x[1] and with Django coming soon, I expect a lot of people will make the transition to Python

Fair enough but my point is that these vehicles are not "environmentally invisible". There is still significant environmental impact in the manufacturing, materials, transportation, supporting infrastructure and disposal of the car.

As Stephen mentions, this is easy to work around using virtualenv and pip. The venv/pip combo make it very easy to work around using whatever outdated packages your distro uses.

Congrats on the 1.0 release! This looks very polished and a strong contender for the king of the django cms's title. I've been evaluating Django cms's over the last couple days and have narrowed it down to Mezzanine or django-cms. Would l

Only tangentially related, but it really bugs me how these vehicles are being marketed as "zero-emissions" and being "invisible to the environment". Clearly the energy is being generated, and hence negatively impacting the environment, som

A minor nit pick: a 10Sv whole body dose is very likely fatal. Routine cancer treatments are in the 20-80Sv range delivered in fractions of 2Sv. During stereotactic radiosurgery (e.g. for a brain tumour) a patient can receive in the neigh
