Maybe all the hard work they did to disk cache the layouts of list items is not resilient to OS updates and changing metrics (only joking, I have no idea why it would crash and then work, though it could be because someone posted something

Oh, so I just noticed the "Whitepaper" link, and that has lots more good info in (I wish the blog post was the whitepaper!). So does Pareon depend on running an instrumented build? If so, wouldn't you need a sample data file (map, demo, w

So looking at the patch: 1. The allocator was a bottleneck; wonder if tcmalloc would have done better? 2. Computing what to draw? (idInteraction) was reduced to a for-loop and parallelized 3. ... lots more pre-rendering stuff ... Unfortunat

I wonder how frequently used the accounts which are used for fraud are? But I guess it's tricky -- maybe I'm signing in from a remote location after many months of inactivity to post some vacation photos, and can't receive texts on my phone

I recently had cause to log in to facebook (first time in 6 months) because my account had been compromised and was used to place a bunch of ads ("find hot guys in your area") which they had apparently approved (and ran to ~$100 in a few ho

If you went to 28nm (current TSMC size, used by Qualcomm and NVidia for a few quarters already) from 45nm (size of A5X) then maybe not.

A6 is 32nm, A5 was originally 45nm and then was reduced for the new iPad2 to 32nm. Intel might be fabbing at 22nm, and probably some DRAM and NAND is on 22nm, but nobody is doing anything complex on 22nm right now. The rest of the ARM indus

So they're going head-to-head with iPad on price and they have few third party apps or games. Obviously this was a wonderful strategy for Palm, RIM, Android (before 2012), Fusion Garage (ha!), HP's slate, etc. Also, the T30 is seriously lon

So Yahoo should buy IFTTT to help people migrate from Twitter to App.net? There are probably some good products to be built on integrated social experiences (or internet glue), but Pipes+IFTTT doesn't sound like an actual end-user product.

Isn't this already invented and called an iPad or Android? (Or more seriously, this is called NaCL). But you want to have OpenGL (with shader compiler security bugs you could drive a truck through!). You want to read from cameras and disks,

Can't wait to see CSS Shaders land, then we can do this and correctly deform the HTML to make it look like it is on the "paper" (instead of being clipped to the paper). Still, with the curves they use it looks pretty good as is. It's nice t

I don't think that's a very reasonable thing to say. Samsung-LSI (which is the "Samsung" in question here) consistently makes better BSPs than, say, TI or nvidia (with their big WinCE-like layer inside the kernel). Samsung Mobile has a repu

This is great, except the Nest thermostat's learning mode doesn't work (for me; kept coming on at 3am, no amount of button pushing would make it not do that except for disabling "learning mode" which is what I did), so you have to use its U

This is also JSC vs V8 (and V8's x86 backend is very mature and well optimized; JSC's ARMv7 backend is pretty good, but nobody's ARM backend has had the same time and effort poured into it as their x86 backends).

You can't do it on a tablet right now, but it's a software problem, not a hardware one. The Galaxy Note 10.1 ships with 2GB RAM and a good SoC. It's more powerful in every way than the PC I was using 5 years ago to write media player UIs. I
