I think this is pretty much bullshit. The only part I agree with is full-time status... but that's a no brainer. The rest are "pretend realities." There's no reason why a CEO should get more, nor the person who came up with the idea... and

Providing links in HN isn't seen as spam, especially if it clears up a missing point. I, for one, would appreciate any links you've got of ones you trust and use.

I've been experimenting with DotCloud (about to push my first site live soon) and I've found it's pretty freaking awesome. It runs on AWS, so basically it's outsourced sysadmin-ing. Give the guys some time and I think DotCloud will be the b

This was submitted before, available here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2004998 , but now with our recent AWS drama... I was wondering if everyone thought these reasons still hold up, especially since building out a data center seem

Emmett can speak to this better than I can, but if I recall correctly, it's so that companies can foster their own cultures without being cross bred as directly from YC.

Title guideline: "If the original title begins with a number or number + gratuitous adjective, we'd appreciate it if you'd crop it. E.g. translate "10 Ways To Do X" to "How To Do X," and "14 Amazing Ys" to "Ys." Exception: when the number i

This is more about staring down Apple and MPEGLA, who both have commented that they think WebM is broadly patent encumbered.

Headline-bloat. 'Killer' expresses a concept really quickly (ie this aims to displace that) which has some utility, but you're right, eventually it loses its actual meaning. Solution doesn't actually seem to have any real meaning, or at lea

This is ridiculous. The article spends 9/10ths of it explaining the current video infrastructure, then takes one paragraph to say "Apple has to create a youtube killer. Expect it to be called iVideo and unveiled at WWDC." Maybe this guy has

I just built an app on both codeigniter and cake... and I prefer cake by far. Cake gets in your way a little bit, but it's good for me since I wouldn't describe myself as a "classically trained coder".

I started two podcasts on CNET, Loaded and The 404, so I have some people who friended me on FB because of that. My solution? I hide unmercifully. If I don't care about someone, or they post 1-2 status updates I find irrelevant, they get hi
