Once you look at the math, you realize that no matter how hard they try, black holes can’t suck everything around them.

Great to see it in ClickHouse. Snowflake released a white paper before its IPO days and mentioned this same feature (secretly exploding JSON into columns). Explains how snowflake feels faster than it should, they’ve secretly done a lot of a

That’s the same point being discussed: who’s to say this podcast is more garbage than the average podcast listened to by users?

They have a metric ton of data about you. I think they just don’t use it much because they probably realized that unless you get super creepy about it, most of this data is worthless from an advertising point of view. Except on YouTube they

It’s just a matter of time before you get a cease and desist in India for using ChatGPT in your name (I’ve had such an experience before).

4 reviews. 3 stars. A hundred quid. This has got to be the most erudite book recommendation in the history of HN. I’m very tempted to get it just to see the fuss.

You’d think that but no. IITs in India would be filled with rich kids, India is a fairly corrupt place after all. But with education if you fully standardize all admissions and are strict about identity then you really can clamp down on it.

Flowers can’t be eaten. They’re just for someone to look at. Heck most people probably don’t even look at them and buy it as a part of a ritual or formality. Does it mean the flower industry is of no benefit to society? Most things we do ar

Noam Chomsky and Doug Hofstader had the same opinion. Last I checked Doug has recanted his skepticism and is seriously afraid for the future of humanity. I’ll listen to him and my own gut than some random internet people still insisting thi

I fail to understand the fascination with de extinction. Like what, you want giant sloth pets in Texas? We seem to have trouble keeping the species we have today from going extinct.

Many of my PhD and post doc colleagues who emigrated from Korea, China and India who didn’t have English as the medium of instruction would struggle with this question. They only recover when you give them a hint. They’re some of the smarte
