Sure, but now we're talking about a programmer analog of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. The first trait of a manager in high tech (whether professor or product manager) has to be technical competence. That trait is not usually sufficient to b

Having 11 papers at once in Science is almost unheard of (especially when they're all by the same group of authors!). It's reserved for Human Genome Project level efforts. So what's the big deal? A prof at Berkeley (Tim White) and his team

Many programmers and entrepreneurs are bipolar or borderline. "The Bipolar Edge" is a book with some interesting research on this if you filter out some of the sensationalism. I think one of the best strategies when depressed is to text som

This is a good paper with an empirical example of a molecule level ratchet effect, but the message here is way overstated. It is definitely NOT the case that evolution "can't go in reverse" as a categorical statement. 1) First and most im

It's worth mentioning conkeror as well -- it's basically Firefox with emacs keybindings. You can use the mouse if you want (as training wheels) and a lot of FF plugins still work. Moreover, the .conkerorrc is in javascript rather than emacs
