If you look at his screenshots you might think you were limited to 80x25 but with EGA and VGA you could pick a different screen size and get more vertical lines.

Back in the day I bought a TRS-80 instead of an Apple ][ based on how much easier the Z-80 looked to write assembly for.

It doesn't take long to find comments on HN about how there are plenty of people out there that can do a good interview but can't code their way out of a paper bag. The standard solution to this, and I've been on the receivin

I also recommend the Babylon Bee, leans conservative but funny as hell. It started as religious satire and they still kill at that.

I don't know if they're "unpopular", but I think the BEAM family of languages, Erlang, Elixir, LFE etc. could be used more. I read more and more problems people have on here and just think that they go away on the BEAM.

My first programming job, 1984, I had a two-floppy PC clone. The source code was in drive B. I put the editor floppy in drive A, wrote code, then put the compiler floppy in drive A, compiled code, if no errors then I put the linker floppy

Do you work in other languages in your spare time? Do you feel left behind working in a mainly OOP language when the industry seems to be heading towards functional programming?

thank you thank you thank you! I had CloudFlare's DNS set up as my first ones in my list, and I got stuck in the Capthca loop. I replaced them with 4.2.2.2 and 8.8.8.8 and no more!

There's nothing quite as fast as keyboard navigating a text input screen, tab key going from field to field. Learning the order that the tab key takes you through the screen. Pure muscle memory, flow from entering information. Web page

Yeah, as soon as I heard about the 5 needing cooling for most tasks I went ahead and got a 8GB Pi 4. That will be powerful enough for what I'm going to use it for, I have plenty of "real" computers for beefier projects.

Windows 95, 98 and ME can read DoubleSpace drives. If you get USB drives set up, which you can do with 95 and 98, and format the drive FAT, not FAT32, put the drive file on it, those versions of Windows will mount it.

It isn't all or nothing. Computer Science degree, and I regularly use the principles I learned in my CS classes, but the required English classes? Not so much. So some "cheating" wouldn't be cheating myself.
